Splendid food, but not very accommodating for couples

We have often eaten here over the years we have visited Venice, and have always enjoyed both the food and the ambiance. But, we have always been seated in the front area of the restaurant. On this occasion, we booked well in advance (generally necessary) but were placed in a small rather... read more

This restaurant takes food seriously, which is not the case for most restaurants in Venice. The setting is authentic, but simple and the staff is very friendly. The food is not quite as good as it was a few years ago with a disappointing choice of desserts. My fish soup was delicious , but the house wine just about drinkable. I... More

This place was recommended to us by a friend on our first visit in September, but we couldn't get in as it was fully booked for our stay (always a good sign). As we returned in low season we managed to get a table without booking. Great service, very friendly staff, excellent food, great value and traditional family atmosphere. This... More

We ate here on the second night of a 5 night stay over Christmas. I was very keen to try the restaurant having read so many good reviews. We turned up without a reservation on a busy night but the front of house guys were really great and managed to fit us in! Needless to say, the reviews were all... More

I've been trying to go here for ages! Would've made it last February but for a fire in an adjacent building but ,at last,in early December,I got there! Was it worth the wait? Yes,on balance it absolutely was. The people working there were nice and friendly as well as efficient. The food didn't completely ' knock me out' but it... More

A wonderful mix of seafood and meat dishes, more obscure Venetian specialties and better-known popular favorites, and in a lovely part of Canareggio well away from all the tourist crowding. We ate broadly from the menu and highly recommend: --the beef tartare--exquisite. --the octopus appetizer, which was served with a lovely potato puree --the bigoli, a whole grain pasta, which... Arrogant people. No reservation, no table. How about tomorrow...... You can sit on a table for 8. That was the only answer. We are busy now..... Bye So we went to an other restaurant, Osteria al Cantinon. You like Steak Tartare, this is the place to go. Friendly service, etc. etc. etc. Best accidental place to go in Venice.........

A fantastic find on Cannaregio. The staff is very friendly, fantastic food and a delightful time out from the crowded streets of St. Mark's district

Wanted a place off the beaten track & found this place. Was really good. A friendly, down to earth place with really really good food. The area is calm, quiet & the other patrons were locals. Great wine suggestion. Definitely on my list for a return.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
