Phenomenal meal and service

In an extremely touristy city with average food and less than friendly service, Anice Stellato stands out as a cut above the rest. We read about the fantastic food here in the NY Times's 36 Hours in Venice. The service in this restaurant is good, we received good advice on what to order. The food was fine, but a little expensive for what you get. The location was good, away from all the tourists.

Venice, overall, is a city filled with tourist traps and generic attempts at Italian cuisine. We had a little bit of a struggle sifting through the bad stuff, but L'Anice Stellato saved us. The service is tops. They are very attentive, and truly professional in their service and presentation. The restaurant itself was quaint and intimate. It is a great... More

After being recommended this restaurant by an Italian friend and since reading the other reviews I wonder if we took a wrong turning somewhere! So, it was a hot evening and there were only tables inside, which we knew would be the case when booking. But. It was like a sauna inside! No AC...ok, but just a few ceiling fans... More

After a long awaited visit to this restaurant we left disappointed. The restaurant has no AC and it is very, very hot inside. The staff were not very accomodating but that could be due to the heat! Yes the food is a little different but nothing special. Maybe we were just unlucky??? What we ate was not reflected in the... More

A friend recommended this place. We had the concierge make a reservation which may be a necessity. They had an Italian menu and then an almost English version. They were capable of describing the dishes in detail. My wife had a pasta dish and I had a local fish dish. Both very very good. Once the sun went down and... More

Was recommended this restaurant by a local and we were not disappointed. Delicious Venetian food with beautiful ambiance. The restaurant itself was located along the canal away from many of the touristy streets which allowed for a relaxing and peaceful place to have dinner. There is an English menu available which is very helpful. I highly recommend making a reservation... More

Booked here for a birthday celebration, had a lovely canal side table and weather was fabulous. Food was wonderful, full of flavour and cooked beautifully (would definitely recommend the octopus, fritto miso and bigoli). We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and will whenever we manage to return definitely be coming back

We visited this restaurant after reading a review on line (not TA). My husband really enjoyed his food but I found mine difficult to digest as it was very greasy. The service was good and it was full so obviously a lot of people do like it. As a tea totaller the only soft drinks they offered were fizzy so... More

Best meal in town. Fresh innovative and interesting preparations in a quiet part of town. Sample this fab cuisine canal-side outdoors or in the cozy interior. Excellent service to top it all off. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Reservations recommended. Can't wait to go back!

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
