Venetian friends took us to La Zucca for an authentic dinner as they highly recommend this restaurant, and it is in the residential area where they live so was a nice change from the busy touristic parts of venice. I can't believe my family and I waited for three day until finally were given a seat in this restauran. Athmosphere is lovely. there is one great table in middle of restaurant in a hallway that leads you from front bar to back group of tables, which is my favorite spot as you have your own window towards canal so... Several recommendations for La Zucca in any research about Venice so booked before we came - just as well as fully booked on the night we went. Menu is in Italian, but the waitress will happily translate. Not a huge menu but everything freshly cooked. A good mixture of vegetarian and meat dishes; everything we had tasted amazing. Extremely good... More

This was our third visit to this restaurant over a period of 10 years or so. We were originally drawn to La Zucca because it was primarily vegetarian, which suited my wife. Meat is now the main part of the menu although the vegetarian main (there was only one) was excellent. The food is a slight twist on traditional italian,... More

We loved La Zucca - what superb food and great service. Wine very reasonable. A must for a visit to Venice but you MUST book. Don't give up - we tried unsuccessfully big tried again the next day and was lucky. Great waiter - highly recommended!

Cute little restaurant with great food and very affordable wine. Everything we ate was just delicious. The pumpkin with scarmorza cheese was outstanding. The menu is in Italian which we google-translated (badly!) but actually the staff are very good at verbally translating the menu for you too if needed. I went with my mum who's quite a picky eater and... More

What a fantastic place!!! Food is simply outstanding. Not the typical same menu you will find anywhere else in Venice, this is high level cooking. This place is a step above any other highly rated place we visited on Venice for our previous 7 meals. Good service, nice little place with a lovely atmosphere and each of the 10 different... More

Our expectations were high for this highly reviewed restaurant but sadly our experience fell short of our expectations. The food was adequate but somewhat tasteless. Maybe we ordered poorly but reading the menu was tricky as it was all in Italian with no translation. We were also very surprised to see so many meat dishes

My husband and I absolutely loved our meal here - the food was amazing and the atmosphere was lovely. We thought it was really great value too! The pumpkin flan starter is a must (even if, like me, you're not sure about pumpkin) - one of the best things I've ever eaten! Great prosecco and red wine too. Make sure... More

What a find?! Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Only slight niggle is that the menu is all in Italian (despite 99.9% of the restaurant being filled with tourists) and it is difficult to follow what is a starter, main, side etc (even the Italian sitting next to me was struggling to understand). That said, the waitress explained it admirably and... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
