One of the most ancient Venetian osterie, the Cantina Do Spade is only a few steps away from the Rialto Bridge. This bacaro offers a variety of cicheti: small typically Venetian snacks like fried squid rings, meatballs, mozzarelle in carrozza, baccala mantecato etc. Here our friendly staff and atmosphere will make you feel at home, but with the opportunity to taste fine and fresh food.

A restaurant loved by the locals.

My friend who is originally from Venezia took me to this restaurant. He said you will have "The true Venezia experience" and he wasn't lying. I enjoyed every bit of this restaurant. I absolutely fell in love with 'Spaghetti al nero' which is quite messy when eating but Amazing flavor!! I also... read more

We came here for chicchetti at lunchtime one day because it was recommended in Frommer's as a great local restaurant to try authentic local cuisine. There is a bar with a lot of chicchetti (similar to tapas small plates) to choose from, or a sit-down restaurant. We tried a few different things and they were all delicious. In particular there... Nice atmosphere with a good vibe. We have Speghetti al Nero and con Pesto, which to us, living up to its price. Plus, the homemade wine is cheap and good. Nothing more to complain.

Yes, the small front bar room of Cantina Do Spade is a typical bacaro of the San Polo area, with great cicchetti. However, the real story and opportunity is the two small dining rooms that operate as a restaurant. Here is where I experienced one of the best experiences of local cuisine in any location of my travels. Over the... More

Stopped here whilst wandering around Venice. Wonderful, reasonably priced local wine by the glass, and the most amazing Venetian style aperitivi. Well worth a visit.

Got a huge variety if super tasty tapas for the fraction of the cost of a restaurant. Hidden in a back alley, a great spot for a snack or dinner

Felt like a real Venetian restaurant with more Italians than tourists eating there. Go for a walk and enjoy delicious Venetian food at the Cantina Do Spade! Wine and so much food came to $46!!

We enjoyed this place very much. The service was friendly and prompt and delivered with a smile. House wine was very reasonable. The gnocchi with ragu was excellent, the spaghetti with clams twisty. Fish was excellent. I can recommend.

This little gem was a little difficult to find, but when we managed to, it was the best meal we had in venice. We tried a little bit of everything that was on display that night and we went home really satisfied and full to bursting. Even though there were no more seats for us as we did not make... More

Dropped by after a Rick Steves recommendation for a 11AM pre-lunch for some vino and cicchetti. The woman behind the bar was welcoming and helpful to make this potentially intimidating experience that perfect mix of challenging and exciting. We started off ordering the house white and pointing to items and eventually got to asking for Spritz, vino Blanco and items... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
