Nice food, good service

We were staying in the hotel so we had some misgivings about eating in what might have been the hotel dining room, but this was a separate affair tucked away in the basement and it was lovely. En-route to the Mont Blanc tunnel and faced with a big queue we decided to stop off in Courmayeur for a spot of lunch before pressing onwards. Due to the wet weather we took a chance on the nearest nice looking place to where we had parked the car. The service was so friendly and welcoming, as well as being... More

Dear Cookiemon, thank you very much for your visit and the nice comments. The "boil in the bag thing" is actually a cooking technique called "low temperature sous-vide vacuum cooking". The items cooked with this technique result tender wiyhout adding extra-condiments and fat. Please, have a look on this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sous-vide. Hope to see you again, best regards Giorgia Perrod More

Had a very pleasant meal here. Service friendly and attentive. Translation of menu into english provides some entertainment. I had the deer salad and then cured pig...... nice, local well-presented dishes, washed down with some Val d'Aosta wine. Enjoyed it.

Need to book as very popular with locals. Great simple well cooked food using the quality of ingredients and preparation to do the talking. Limited menu with more choices at weekend. Good choice of wines by the glass price at 3.5 to 4.5 euros. Had eight days in Courmayeur and this was our favourite place , just good honest food... More

Agree with most reviews below! A relatively small place, tucked away just down the main street in Courmayeur, so be sure to make a reservation, for any night of the week. Food is really good, simple, authentic, very Italian, very affordable, and large portions, for those of you with a big appetite! A simple decor, like a nice informal enoteca!... More

Lovely couple who own it gave us a great local wine tasting with local cheeses and meats. Haven't eaten there for dinner, but would think it would be worth a go.

Excellent service, very good dessert and local wine (recommend the Torrette Supérieure at € 4.50 a glass). 2 courses, a glass of wine and coffee at € 19 per person. Strongly recommended. There are some dishes (e.g., lasagne) that are only available on 24 hours' notice - so book ahead.

I've always been in love with Italian food but I think I never truly knew what Italian food was about until I had 2 dinners in Al Vecchio Torchio...The food is DE-LI-CIOUS...Absolutely no words to describe Simone's lasagna (and carbonara) and Giorgia's desserts! You have to taste it to believe it! I just wish I could taste some of their... More

When my friends and me were planning our trip to Courmayeur, I had found some good reviews about this local restaurant and all of them turned out absolutely right!! Fantastic lasagna! But you should book your table and this meal in advance, especially in overcrowded time. Special thanx to Georgia - enoteca's sommelier! Amarone was wonderful!
