Fantastic meal

This restaurant, within easy driving distance of Orta san Giulio, was excellent. The service was great and the variety of dishes on the set menu was really good. We were able to sample local specialities like the chestnut gnocchi which we would not have otherwise known about. The staff were very... read more

We stayed in the hotel (the restaurant and the hotel are part of the same complex) and since it was our first night in Italy, and we reckoned that we would be tired after the flight and the drive, we decided to order the half board option. Boy, we made the right choice. The half board option costs 19EUR per... More

We visited the restaurant three times in 10 days, walking the 30 - 40 mins each way with our two daughters aged 2 and 6. The food was fantastic and great value. The wines similarly were delightful and again, great value. It's not fine dining, but wonderful cooking of local/home-produced ingredients, in hearty portions and for an incredibly reasonable price.... More

This is like dining with an Italian family so if you are after glitz and glamour it's not for you. I was a bit dubious as was told the price per head and was expecting a poor meal but this is the best value for money anywhere. All home grown food, you don't get a choice, everyone gets the same... Like other reviews indicated, a farm to table restaurant where the 5-6 course meal - a fixed one-menu meal - is around 25 Euros without wine. That is a great price, and everything is quite fresh and tasty. What one should not expect is anything special, neither in ingredients nor in taste - it is home style cooking, comfort food... More

... that you could get such a wonderful 7 or 8 course meal for less than 30 euros each. There's only one set menu every night (so everybody in the restaurant gets served the same thing), but it did not bother us at all. To the contrary, we thoroughly enjoyed discovering whatever the chef had set his mind on that... More

Ate here the first night we were staying at the hotel next door (Agriturismo Il Cucchiaio di Legno) Huge log fire - loads of locals (think that says it all) and a great meal of eight courses for 24 euros!! Could not believe the amount of food and what value for money it represented. The menu sadly only changes weekly... More

We had a fabulous meal here on our last night in Orta. 24 Euros for eight courses of fabulous Italian food. The restaurant was full of locals and was lively and friendly. You need to book and there's no choice apart from pudding but there is so much food that there is something for everyone. Great value, Great food and... More

Stayed at the hotel next door for two nights, and ate at the restaurant both nights. It was that good. The Menu at 24 euros is incredible value. The place is full of locals as well. The staff are passionate about their business, and explain each dish as it is presented. The wine is also good value and their is... More

We were staying at Il Cucchiaio di Legno (it has accommodation as well as a restaurant) and hadn't initially thought to eat here. But boy are we glad we did! What a pleasant surprise. Dinner consists of a set menu - there is no choice - so that might be a drawback for some. We decided we'd take what we... More
