Situated in one of the most interesting Asti area, near Teatro Alfieri, San Secondo Basilica, Il Punto bookshop, Tacabanda, is a very cosy place where to have a quick lunch or an elegant dinner. At the end of a stair, there is a barrel vaulted room, with brickworks and basement windows wells, often there are art exhibitions. Cooking is light,... More

... not only the food is very very good with a wide selection of local specialties, not only it is a very cute place with great atmosphere, but also is a very nice way to help other people. The chef who is the owner too, will most likely be happy to explain the whole project and talk about the great... More

Having been to Tabacanda over 10 times now, I still feel the urge to go again! Great for their lunch special at only 11 Euro's, the night menu is also not to be missed. A great wine list compliments the local typical Piedmont food. If you are up to it, try the horse cheeks (guanchotti di cavallo), they are amazing!

I was here the other day for lunch with my boyfriend and my parents. My boyfriend asked some cops where was a good place to eat traditional food in Asti and they told us this place. Well we were very very happy with our lunch. We ordered two appetizers, cavolo with gorgonzola cheese -very good and then bagna caoda with... More

Recommended by our hotel and a good choice. An atmospheric basement tavern with creative versions of local food (after a while traditional regional food can all seem a bit similar, but this was interesting and high quality).Right in the centre of Asti. One of the better meals we had on an extended tour of Northern Italy.

In Monferrato eating well is not hard, and Tacabanda in Asti is no exception. I have tried it in various seasons, always at lunch and with my family, and it's a pleasure for us to come back: the menu is rich, essentially focused on Piedmontese cuisine, and the choice of the most famous local red wine (Barbera) is simply terrific.... The food was unbeatabe and the service was great. Good information from all the staff about the wine and the food. Presentation was also good and the setting, downstairs in a funky basement was really good fun. Lovely place to go with friends for a night out. Highly recommended.

We have been to Asti eight times, and have eaten in most restaurants, which are generally excellent. The Tacabanda however, was an exception. The outside tables are fantastic, and the setting is beautiful. They also have a very good wine list, and we were expecting a great meal. The pasta course was tasty but overcooked, and the angelotti was really... More

The restaurant was crowded with locals both times we dined there but we were greeted warmly by staff and they offered wonderful suggestions on dining and wines. We spent two truly memorable evenings there and strongly suggest it to anyone in the Asti area. Its in a basement, can be a little hard to find, but well worth the effort!
