I love Slow Food. It all but guarantees quality ingredients, and restos that care enough to sign up for it are almost always worth visiting. Here: brilliant salumi plates, one of products from the Val d'Orcia in Tuscany, one of goose products (the goose rillettes were magnificent). Better to come - the best porchetta I have ever tasted, deep with... More

When I'm in Milan and I want to eat well I often end-up there. Beyond the story of the place, an old railways union cooperative, there is an authenticity at all levels that is missing in most places. Traditional dishes, presidi slowfood, good wine selection and gentle and food lovers waiters (although not always the most formal ones). Definitely to... More

We recently visited Milan on a trip to Italy. This restaurant was recommended to us as having "traditional Milanese" food. During our one-week trip to Italy we routinely had excellent meals; this restaurant was the sole exception. I ordered Porchetta and I was served a slab of fat. I am serious. It was at least 90% fat, with some gravy... More

Visited del treno with eight colleagues for dinner. Pleasant service with the waiter happy to translate and explain the menu. A fair choice of dishes for both non-vegetarian and vegetarian. The restaurant is near Central Station and if going in a large group, booking is recommended. All of us tried different dishes and we were all happy with the quality... More

I'have been several times in this restaurant that is really easy to be reached by foot from the train station. The food is really good. The "ossobuco" are tasty and absolutely a must. The only surprise last time was the appetizer "Misto milanese" that was a little bit under my expectation in terms of quantity. the selection of cheese is... More

We were recommended to come to this place by a local friend and are really glad we did. It looks unassuming and the decor is basic, but the food is great. It came to about €30 per head for our evening meal of 2 courses with wine, though not everyone had 2 courses. They didn;t open till 8 and were... More

This review is coming a bit late but am still going to write the review! The location is very nice as it was fairly close to the train station. It was a little bit hard to find at first - in fact the phone GPS was off by one block. We arrived and were waiting just before they opened and... More

First impression of this place is not very good. The restaurant did not look like a great place but once the food arrived we where proved wrong. Tested a traditional ossobuco and it was great. The staff was friendly and we had an excellent time.

Osteria del Treno is a ‘circolo’ or club. In Italian society, a circolo is a local spot to meet friends, play cards and discuss current affairs over an aperitivo or a bite to eat. This one, it seems, had its genesis with railway workers but is now a restaurant that specialises in local food – ‘zero kilometri’ if that can... More
