We went there a few times in the past couple of years. The restaurants serves good local food and service from staffs are friendly. Since we do not speak Italian, they have few staff who can also speak English. We like the history of this restaurant and the historical pictures on the wall telling us more history on Italian railway.

This place used to be one of my favourite in Milan: milanese food just milanse-style, and right price. I came back after a couple of years... and I haven't been soooo satisfied as I used to be. The food is slightly more international-fancy-touristic style, i.e. all the same international flavour and aspect; and yes, the price is overrated, also given... More

The friendly folks at this highly decorated Osteria (three gamberi in the Gambero Rosso guide) are proud of their dedication to superb local ingredients (cheeses, salumi) and traditional Italian dishes, although some of them stray far away from Lombardy. At lunch, the restaurant turns into a cafeteria where long lines of eager eaters line up to avail themselves of the... More

This is typical "trattoria" for locals and food amateurs. the food is great and they have an impressive selection of wines. it is one of those places where it is worth to go and try the atmosphere. Some member of the staff is not as friendly as a place like this deserves to attract and keep customers. Apart from that,... More

Really really good, staff were very down to earth, food was excellent (I don't recall precisely what we had) but I do know we had a second helping of the ragu on offer instead of desert. Fantastic. The previous night, we had tried to get a seat to no avail, but we were invited to dine in the meeting hall... More

Yes it was the canteen for train workers, but now it is a place of character for good food Quality produce, but a simple menu of a dozen dishes and a dozen wines by the glass/carafe (or a huge selection by the bottle) At lunch time, men in suits mingled with those dressed for working on a railway (I assume)... I love Slow Food. It all but guarantees quality ingredients, and restos that care enough to sign up for it are almost always worth visiting. Here: brilliant salumi plates, one of products from the Val d'Orcia in Tuscany, one of goose products (the goose rillettes were magnificent). Better to come - the best porchetta I have ever tasted, deep with... More

When I'm in Milan and I want to eat well I often end-up there. Beyond the story of the place, an old railways union cooperative, there is an authenticity at all levels that is missing in most places. Traditional dishes, presidi slowfood, good wine selection and gentle and food lovers waiters (although not always the most formal ones). Definitely to... More

We recently visited Milan on a trip to Italy. This restaurant was recommended to us as having "traditional Milanese" food. During our one-week trip to Italy we routinely had excellent meals; this restaurant was the sole exception. I ordered Porchetta and I was served a slab of fat. I am serious. It was at least 90% fat, with some gravy... More

Staying in Stazione Centrale

Neighborhood Profile
Stazione Centrale
Central Station represents a bridge towards the future. Impressive skyscrapers and new age buildings stretch the skyline with the majestic Unicredit Tower cutting through. Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.
