The Don Carlos, pays homage to Maestro Giuseppe Verdi, who stayed at the Grand Hotel et de Milan for more than twenty years. An intimate and elegant setting with paintings, sketches and scene-paintings from the La Scala Theatre Museum. The Don Carlos Restaurant serves Italian traditional cuisine under the light of its antique silver chandelier. Under the executive management of the Chef Angelo Gangemi, the Don Carlos offers a traditional Italian cuisine which presents all ingredients according to their seasonality, interpreting with originality and refinement menus taken from the flavours and fragrances of the Mediterranean tradition. It is listed in the leading guide-books and reviews as one of the most exclusive restaurants in Milan, having reached a top gastronomic level, with excellent service in an elegant atmosphere. In the cellar, that prides itself on 200 labels, you can find the remains of an old Roman wall that dates back to 250 AD. Open for after theatre dinners, in the warm seasons it is also possible to eat outdoors.

Old School Italian

I love that they had their own brand of pasta and fresh-baked bread to die for. i came with a family of four with kids 7 and 9, and I found the staff to be very attentive.

Don Carlos is elegant, quiet, understated and filled with history. As the sound of opera gently plays in the background, the restaurant professionally serves wonderful food. We had the tasting menu and every course was wonderful. The wine list is extensive and has interesting choices. A very memorable meal.

This was a fabulous restaurant a minute walk from Teatro Alla Scala. The food, service, and atmosphere were top notch. We dined after an Opera, and the staff went out of their way to be attentive, every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection.

The historic ambiance is palpable, the service prompt and friendly, the wine by the glass is good, even by Australian standards, and I had a great meal The (white) asparagus starter was delicious. The main course of Milanese veal cutlet was a shock. The plate was half a metre square, and the meat was enormous. It was a comfort-food offering... More

This romantic and historic restaurant is located within The Grand Hotel, the oldest hotel in Milan, and the hotel where Verdi lived his last years and died. Surprisingly we found many of the dishes flavorless and ordinary. NOT what we were expecting (and looking forward to) at all.

My family and I had dinner at Don Carlos around the holidays. We had reservations for 6 at 7:30PM. The service was spotty - the waiter messed up with the menus and spilled some water. The service definitely should have been better, considering that when we arrived the restaurant was empty and filled up more later in the evening. The... More

Staying in Brera

Neighborhood Profile
Brera
Brera captures the real essence of the city. It is an excellent mix between history and modernity, where tradition meets innovation. Here design and beauty reign. On Via Brera there are the famous Pinacoteca (galleries), the National Gallery of Modern and Antique Art, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Interior design boutiques and intellectual cafes are typical of the district. Walking along Via Madonnina is a must to admire the architecture of buildings and the design stores. On Sundays, going to the local market is an unmissable opportunity for fashion, style and art. Tucked away, there is the Orto Botanico di Brera botanical garden that seems like a painting framed in an ancient fairy structure. Last but not least, it’s worth a visit to Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli with its Planetarium, the Civico Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum).
