We really enjoyed our traditional Italian meal at this trattoria, including tortellini zucca and maccheroni stracotto, and some good local wine. Its a bit off the beaten track but worth the short walk from the centre. its not expensive and its open late. If we are in Mantua again we will be back.

Here for Sunday lunch we opted to dine in the delightful wisteria-covered pergola at the back of the trattoria where a dozen or so white tables and chairs are elegantly covered with white table cloths(see photo) We both chose a regional agnoli as primo (similar to tortellini) mine with tomato sauce, my companios with the cream sauce. Both were very... More

We found out about this restaurant from an article in the Guardian, and what better way to spend lunchtime on a grey April day? This is a proper local restaurant selling local food to local people - mainly businessmen on their lunch break. The food was simple yet delicious. For a starter we enjoyed salamin and pickled onion/olive/artichoke. After the... More

We were excited to try this place, which is a little off the beaten path in Mantova. We headed in on a rainy night in November, and we were about 10 minutes early for their 7:30 opening time. They invited us to come in and dry off anyway, so we did. We ate pumpkin ravioli and the maccheroni. Both were... More

We (tourist couple, oldies, foodies) sought this out on the basis of the good reviews here, and were not disappointed, we found it every bit as good as the enthusiasts here say. I admit we weren't fussed over, but we like professional unfussy do-the-job service, and when we asked advice we got it. We chose the Mantovan dishes, two courses,... More

After being recommended Due Cavallini by our B&B owner we went there to eat in the garden and the food was absolutely wonderful and not at all expensive. We ate with 4 of us, including 2 bottles of very good wine, we had to pay €135 in total in the end! It's a family driven business, 72 years old and... More

We had dinner at the Due Cavallini on the recommendation of our hotel which was around the corner. We were shown to a table in the outdoor garden towards the back (which was a lovely spot for dinner) and clearly we were the only non-Italians in the restaurant that night. The menu was easy enough to understand and since I... More

Everyone had suggested it because of the typical mantuan cuisine and good dishes. We found the staff very unkind and discorteous and the atmosphere and rooms old fashioned and stark. I have personally had the best "tortelli di zucca" (tortelli filled with pumpkin) and "stracotto" in town, but I rather prefer a more familiar and smiling place so that the... More
