Had two excellent dinners whilst staying at this hotel. Be prepared to pay top London prices but we felt it was worth it. Service ambience etc were all up to the mark. Couldn't be faulted.

We went for a night from Milano. I really fell in love with the hotel. It's interior, while very well preserved, felt like from a different time. And service could not have been more attentive and friendly. It's an easy trip from Milano, first stop on the trains from Milano centrale towards Geneva or Basel. Then a 5 min walk... More

The hotel had a lot of character and was a pleasure to stay at. There was little to fault. The accommodation was well appointed and the bathroom was a delight. The views from the balcony were great even given we did not have the best weather. Breakfasts were well provided for and the service in the restaurant was efficient and... More

Whilst we did not stay at this hotel it is a must to walk around and visit. It was built in 1863 and has all the character of an italien hotel of that time. A very beautiful old building that is decorated and adorned with artifacts of its time, very tasteful but not a cheap place to stay. The pool... More

Didnt stay there because of the cost, but went for a drink in the over-the-top lobby and walked around the grounds. One can just picture Winston Churchill on his honeymoon

Wonderful ambience, top notch service and quality food. Would definitely recommend (even if not staying at the hotel) , for it's meat dishes (as that's what we took) and for the antipasti. Desserts of apple pie, ice cream, fruit tart and cheesecake were good too.

We ate lunch in the 'Hotel Des Iles Borromees' to savour the experience of grand dining from another era. The welcome was warm and it appeared that the dress code was not as rigid as might have been supposed in such opulent surroundings, which was almost a pity. The dining room was quiet on our visit and would have been... More

If I'm staying in a top class hotel the one thing I take for granted is Internet access. This is 2013 and even when on vacation I need to stay in touch. I booked the room via Expedia and it came with free Internet access. What they didn't say is that it is only available in the lobby and every... More

I agree with the gentleman from West Virginia. The Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees is truely a magnificent hotel and a grand experience in the true Hemmingway tradition. We arrived here on the boat from Lacarno which took about 4 hours. The scenery was lovely and I would recommend a the trip on the lake. Our room had a view... More
