Where do I start?! Don't bother asking for a menu and don't waste your breath attempting to get even a ballpark estimate of the price you'll be paying for them allowing you to dine here. Don't bother reading the wine list either, because they will tell YOU what wine you'll have (and their pick will be at lease twice as... More

Really a good eating experience. Truly Italian. Great service really professional. Food was wonderful. Chef takes the time to serve the meal and greet the guests. Worth a visit as a food lover I appreciated this place for its authentic menu and wine list.

My wife and I had a great diner and a great time. We had dietary restrictions and after going through what they could offer us, we found there wasn't much. They didn't get discouraged and took a list of all the fish we could eat for the next evening. The following evening we showed up with my wife and were... More

If you prefer to get best suggestions, individuell top service, good recommandations, nice atmosphere, high class prepered meals, fresh fish and other daily dishes then you should accept high prices and go to this restaurant. After beeing in this city almost 10 times and knowing most restaurants I believe I can compare this restaurant with others in this city. First... More

We meandered in here one night during our recent holiday in Stresa and opted for the 6 course 'Modern' tasting menu, and took the option to have the wine chosen for us. What a fantastic decision. Every course was really good, the wines were perfect, service was exceptional...if I had one complaint, it would be that the Maitre d' spent... More

Wandered in at 7.10 to see the staff eating. Persuaded to stay and happily we did. 6 courses later we are very pleased. Brilliant cooking. Best squid ever and all courses brilliantly cooked. Not cheap but equal to a one star Michelin restaurant any time. Loved it and the maitre d spoke excellent English as well as French and Italian.... More

The owner of the apartment of where we are staying highly recommended Il Clandestino to us. So I promptly made a call and was able to reserve a table for this evening. I also let them know of my dietary requirements which they assured me would be no problem. We opted for the 5 course degustation menu which obviously had... More

Three of us had a heavenly dinner at Il Clandestino last night. Franco is a creative genius, and if you want to experience all that his creativity can offer, then you have to go with one of the degustazione menus. At 60 euros each, it is a good value. You don't know what each course will be and you take... More

The previous review by evm1959 saddens me because she has given an excellent restaurant a single star rating in response to being unable to get a table after closing. I can sympathise with her frustration of not being served after time; I experienced this a few times in the area but that is not a good enough reason to given... More

So... we were visiting Stresa, with the Lonely Planet Guide to show us the way around. Il Clandestino was one of the recommended restaurants. As LP never let us down, we decided to try it, quite aware that it wasn't what we can call a budget restaurat... It was raining, so my husband droped my daughter and me at the... More
