This tiny restaurant takes some finding in the lanes above the Varenna harbour, but it is worth the effort. There are only 5 tables and reservations are highly advisable, especially if there are more than two people. The menu is not extensive, but you can watch your meal being cooked. The pricing is very reasonable, the food was sensational. The... More

This tiny restaurant is in a small street up the steps from the lakeside. No views. Only 5 tables but all were booked when we there this week. It is run by Riccardo, chef, and Giuseppe , front of house and they make a great team. The activity in the kitchen is visible from the dining area through a glass... More

We prefer traditional Italian cuisine. Just could not get it here. Just ok, not sensational. Good if you are not used to casalinga, traditional Italian food.

Just got back to our hotel after an excellent meal here. We both had the white fish starter and I had lamb and my wife had ravioli with aubergine. We had a good bottle of Gavi with the meal and finished with an excellent pannacotta. Service and location fantastic. As I said "what a find".

We ate the best caprese salad . The lamb was exquisite and the spaghetti was really delicious, but the cheese plate was the best finish for this great meal. Thank you

Tiny little spot. Intimate, great decor, great food, excellent service. All 4 of us loved our meal. Salt cod and potato appetizer was outstanding. Good wine at reasonable prices. Loved this place!

I was on a walking tour in Italian Lakes area and one of our guides recommended this little jewel. He was absolutely right. You MUST reserve, especially for a party bigger than 2. The place is tiny - probably fewer than 20 seats. But because of that, and the wonderful attention of the sole front of the house staff member,... More

During our three night stay in Varenna we had the opportunity to try several local restaurants and Il Cavatappi ("the corkscrew" in English) was by far our favorite. Everything was perfect: a small intimate restaurant (only six inside tables), interesting menu, efficient friendly service and warm inviting surroundings. Their menu features all fresh ingredients plus local produce & seafood. I... More

The old Cavatappi intimacy is celebrated in a rinnovated and elegant new image. The chef (Riccardo) and the maitre (Giuseppe) have rebuilt a new great place through a special attention to details, overcoming the random behaviour of the previous owner The menu is rich of italian peculiar ingredients prepared with great care, tastefully and well presented with a strong attention to... After reading the TA reviews saying how good the previous restaurant owner was and how it is under new management, we were sceptical of going to this restaurant, but due to strong winds and unseasonably cold temperatures, we stumbled into the closest restaurant to the hotel. Boy were we glad! Only a tiny place with one chef and one odd... More
