A real "tratoria", one of the last

A lived in Ventimiglia for a while and come back to visit family every couple of years or so. Gimma is one of the last true local restaurant where you can eat simple good fresh food. My dad knows the owner, so that's a plus for when we come we ask some "antipasti" and she brings us what she... read more

On our first evening in Italy, we went to this restaurant, not by choice but because of the rain. As we were already wet, we'd better gone to another place. Service was slow, although we were the only customers. Food was not to bad untill I got my mixed seafood, which smelled and tasted like ammoniac. A restaurant at only... More

A good old-fashioned Italian restaurant with fresh pasta dishes and seafood. Local families and visitors were eating while we were there. Service was friendly. Good fresh calamari, gnocci with tomato pesto was excellent. Finished with tiramisu and limoncello. Not fancy, just simple and carefully prepared. Great experience!

We celebrated a big birthday having eaten here many times before. They set a wonderful table for 18 and it could not have been better. We choose between the carpachio of sword fish or palma ham and melon, followed by a frito misto and then lasagne or spaghetti vongole and salads. They made a wonderful gateau. Everyone said the food... More

The Ristorante Gimma was mostly empty last night, which was a pity since we had an absolutely delicious meal there, of copious proportions. The person serving, possibly one of the owners, was helpful and entertaining as well, without being intrusive. Four of us had chosen it after reading Omicidio ai Balzi Rossi by a local author, Roberto Negro. His chief... More

Tuesday.....we are surprised to find that all the restaurants we frequent, and which are wonderful are closed. " chiuso tutto il giorno Martedì" what a disappointment. We look on trip advisor and again find the same problems. We notice that 3 restaurants are in the same street and head for them hoping that one will be open. Phew they are... More

I visited Gemma's on the recommendation of the Hotel Calypso's manager and am glad I did. It was a slow evening so I had plenty of attention in addition to the homemade ravioli. Less sauce than I expected -- but much more wine. I'm not complaining! Good value.

We have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions last year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was good food at resonable prices. We even went specially to Ventimiglia. This year it was not so good. There were 2 elderly waitresses we recognised from last year and the place was packed. The service was very slow, the food not so... More

Ate here tonight.. House Red was bad and still fermenting, Carpese was not fresh, spaghetti bolognese was stone cold... No apology, plate was taken away, microwaved and re-served, congealed parmesan and all.... I certainly won't be eating here again.... very disappointing
