Worth going off the beaten track

San Siro is a place away from the sea front and so, undeservedly less well known then some of the tourist-oriented eateries. I spend a lot of time in Liguria, so I enjoy finding places where I can eat well in the company of locals. This is just that kind of place, and you can walk there in ten... read more

I grow up in the area and been dining here regularly for many years. My family and I, recently booked a table for 20 for dinner. I must say both food and service were great. We all had pizza by e meter to share, too many to count and to remember the toppings, all the one I tried were absolutely... More

We stopped at the recommendation of our airbnb host (Antonio...a fine gentleman). He said it was a place the locals like to go...not in the touristy part of town. They specialize in seafood...and he sure was right. Both the appetizer and the entree we're amazing...two types of shrimp, octopus, salmon, mussels, clams, and squid. Service was nice. A great meal...would... More

Awesome food and nice service. Nothing fancy, just real ligurian kitchen. We went there several times and it always was top notch.

This restaurant is clearly popular with local people - not in the luxury class, but good clean surroundings. It is a good ten minute walk from the town centre, slightly uphill all the way. The menu is very Italian, though not massive, and food is well-cooked. Beware, though, of grilled scampi here and elsewhere - it is served in the... More

The people we rented our wonderful holiday home from told us to avoid this place. They were absoloutely right!! The pizza had a huge fat, flabby base and was topped with very little cheese and tinned mushrooms (you could see by the texture and taste they were from a tin) My husband's dried out sea bass fillet was absolutely minuscule.... Although you are less than a mile from the water and all the tourist filled restaurants, we seemed to be transported to the real Italy at San Siro. The fresh fish was excellent as was all pasta. What fun watching lean Italians eat so many many courses! The dog watching also provides great entertainment as restless Americans learn to slow... More

This is a relatively simple trattoria offering local cuisine, somewhat off the beaten track in Santa Margherita, as you have to walk up the main street for about half a mile to get to it. It offers superb seafood pasta, local pasta dishes and pizza, with a decent wine list, at inexpensive prices. Probably the best value meal we had... More

We spend most of our holidays and weekends in Santa Margherita and, after trying other alternatives, we always come back to this family-run "trattoria" (italian word for a simple restaurant offering the local cuisine), half a mile away from the crowded and expensive seafront. Our top picks are scialattielli with seafood and fish (the catch of the day can be... More
