Great experience

This place is very much about the experience. It's a local eatery with a homey vibe, don't expect exceptional food or fancy service. The beauty of this place is the fact that it's like being at a relative's house, very informal, very no-frills. And it's GREAT because of that! The prices are... read more

I've been going to Trattoria da Maria for years now and it's a fantastic place to try some traditional Genoese cuisine as well as some traditional Italian dishes. Mind you, it's a very rustic place (hence the name trattoria which means a simple restaurant serving simple food) and is not a somewhere you would bring someone on a date or... More

Maria is a kind of cornerstone of Genoese restaurants. Among the cheap ones, it is the best, period. Maybe if you're not used to the so-called "genoese welcome" you could find Da Maria a bit odd, but, trust me, as soon as you taste its marvelous food, everything will become like a dream

Tasty food, fast service and small prices. I had a minestrone, which was surprisingly large and delicious and so where the 2 fish dishes (one of them scorpion fish, the other I can not remember) that we shared afterwards. Loved the atmosphere.

This place will get one star because zero is not an option. We went to Da Maria during lunch time and ordered drinks, plus two dishes and a salad. The menu was handwritten and it was barely readable. Shortly after ordering, we were told that they were out of both our dishes, but that can be expected from a place... More

Before going to da Maria, firstly locate the place on the map, it is not very easy to find for the first time. Secondly, make sure that it is open. Usually they are open during the weekdays. I have been there many times but only for dinner. The place is very busy, it would be very helpful to call and... More

We chose to eat here upon the recommendation of staff at our hotel. It is a small place up a small alley. We sat at a table right next to the kitchen and could actually watch them making our food. Some might not like that and most tables aren't right by the kitchen like that but we found it fun.... More

The kind of place where the locals go to grab a quick lunch (provided you don't mind the staff handling your food with their hands in the kitchen). Starters, dish, dessert, drink = 25 Euro (for 2 people, so 12 each, probably the cheapest one in the city!). If you don't know what to have the waitress speaks French too.

I was really impressed by this overcrowded traditional restaurant where you have to seat with other unknown people otherwise there are no seats available if you go there without booking in advance. The service was really fast and the furniture was really simple, old style (you have the impression that nothing has been changed for the last century at least!),... More

This is a truly authentic place close to the main train station. The interior is very simple and functional, no effort put into the ambience, because that is not what ppl come here for. It's the food and its prices. They have a hand written menu that changes frequently based on what was available at the market, offering meat, seafood... More
