Amazing views, average food, friendly but poor service

I will join many of previous reviewers and summarize the experience as follows: This restaurant offers amazing views (especially watching the sun set), food was average (not noteworthy, neither good nor bad), the service was friendly when arriving and ordering, but it took forever to pay and the... read more

I rarely do reviews, but this one I had to write. Al Castello has a really beautiful view, but that's about it. The waiter assigned to our table was the most arrogant, inattentive and self-centered person I have ever met in the service industry. The food wasn't anything special either so the prices you pay are way too high. They... More

I will give the restaurant full marks for a great location and a good atmosphere. Service was quick but not overly attentive. We ordered our food and our wine and within minutes the wine arrived (yeah!) but was palced on the table for us to pur ourselves, no tasting first. Our apps arrived immediately and for that we knew why... More

We had been recommended to try this restaurant and were well pleased with a tasty lunch overlooking the bay and harbour in Vernazza. This is a most picturesque location and the restaurant is located at the top of several flights of steps.... a climb which is well worthwhile to have such a view. The food and wine and service was... I will join many of previous reviewers and summarize the experience as follows: This restaurant offers amazing views (especially watching the sun set), food was average (not noteworthy, neither good nor bad), the service was friendly when arriving and ordering, but it took forever to pay and the bill was handwritten (barely legible) and they didn't accept credit cards.

The view is really what makes this restaurant. Sunset here is a trip highlight. Be prepared for the climb, but it is worth it. Food is a bit spendy for what you get. The pesto lasagna was highly recommended, but we found it so-so. Service was good and the staff was friendly. Shrimp scampi was totally not what I was... More

We had a great dining experience here. Reserve in advance for dinner and enjoy perhaps the best view among the restaurants in Vernazza. The seafood appetizer is a "must." We had the seafood risotto which was good, but I believe there are better options. The owner was very nice and the staff were also friendly. A must if you visit... More

Great location and the views are terrific if you book a table in advance overlooking the ocean. But that's where it ends. The service was terrible and the food poor. And like previous reviewers mentioned, cash only without warning. Worse dining experience in Vernazza.

Incredible view, but it stops there. We felt rushed as soon as we sat down and they were more concerned to get us in and out quickly than with our experience! The waiter clearly didn't care what we ordered and simply suggested the most expensive items. He never brought water when we asked for it and came back to ask... More

Monica and Massimo and their staff cooked up fantastic cusine every night. Try the Lemon anchovies they are to die for and not anything like the salty American kind you are used to

The food in the Cinque Terre was some of the best we had in Italy, and the cuisine here includes local family recipes prepared with love and care. Our server recommended wonderful wine to accompany delicious food - I highly recommend the "Vernazzana," a dish of potatoes, anchovies and tomatoes. The views are also outstanding.
