Just Okay

We stopped in for dinner one evening after a long day of shopping. The food was just okay. Nothing special. Our waiter seemed a bit perturbed to have to be waiting on us so that kind of dampened our impression of the place. We won't go back.

We visited Cinque Terra on a Tauck Tour 10 years ago, and the tour guide took us to Gianni Franzi restaurant which is in Vernazza. She instructed to the group to order the locally made pasta (trofie) with pesto, saying that this is the best pesto in the world. She was absolutely correct. One of the major reasons we went... We went to Gianni Franzi only because it was conveniently located near our accommodations in Vernazza. It turned out to be an awful mistake. The pasta dishes we ordered were unimpressive and lacked flavor. It was almost like we were eating in a wannabee Italian restaurant in a US suburb. To make it worse, our waiter was rude and disinterested.... More

This restaurant has seating inside and outside. On the night we dined there, early to mid May, we sat outside, walked up without reservations about 7pm and enjoyed a really good meal. The pesto was delicious. Mild, creamy and fresh. The waiter was good, friendly and attentive when he had to be. We also ate breakfast here several mornings, just... More

Three of ate dinner here, ordering a variety of items. When we were surprised to see green radicchio I our salads (since we had only ever had red radicchio before), our nice waiter brought us some from the kitchen for us to examine! The spaghetti with mussels was wonderful. Tiramisu was also excellent, and one order was enough for the... More

Very nice evening good special of sea bass and potatoes. Very good. The marinated mussels were very good too. Be wary if you make dinner reservation during lodging checkin as our reservation was not noted when we arrived for our table. We waited 30 minutes, and were seated at a nice table with good view. The only bad tables would... More

The food was good, not great, a gnocci that was a bit raw and tasteless and a pasta dish that wasn't special. We were surprised to be refused water from the tap when other Italian restaurants give it gladly. The waits can be long in this small town, so expect to wait or sit inside [which was good, since construction... More

There are several restaurants vying for your business in the Vernazza square. This one is in the middle. The menu has a range of regular stuff like spaghetti and local dishes.. We ordered some Trofie Pesto and some mussels and spaghetti. Both were delicious, although I would recommend the mussels. The waiters were accommodating to our kids and the desserts... More

We anywhere on our last night. Whilst the meals are expensive we were impressed by the quality of the dishes that came out. We had the mixed taster plate for starter then the baked sardines and whole fish for dinner. I don't think you can go wrong with their seafood. The service was so so but we entertain ourselves.
