great local food with the Italian heart

Having lived in Modena for a couple of months, this is certainly one of the best places I have eaten at. The food is local/regional with seasonal specialties which you will 1. not find translated 2. not at your normal Italian restaurant at home. All the food are made fresh, with care and knowledge... read more

After visiting this restaurant two times I am persuated that the owner must somehow know the other owner of the Inn name "Pane e Olio" in Florence (see my review about it too). If they do not know each other, but on randomly meeting in a train, they are likely to make friends. Similarities and scenarios seem to share the... More

Modena on August 22. was a drag! Everything were closed, including all the reaturants the we had been recommended. But then we found Stallo del pomodoro. Inovative kitchen, but not silly, the staff was to every extent very skilled. This place is highly recommendable!

This was an amazing restaurant. Traveling to Italy always makes you think of bread, pasta, pastries. What's a gluten free gal to do? I have to say that this is my second time to Italy and this restaurant makes me want to venture back. The waitress took her time to explain and translate the menu, with regular choices but over... I was in Modena the weekend of the 17 August. Literally everything in the city was closed for the summer vacation period. Many of the restaurants I researched prior to my trip were closed – mid august to the end of august. I found this restaurant by just walking around the neighborhood surrounding the hotel – Canal Grande- it is... More

Great choice of original dishes. Made with traditional aliments from Modena, the food is also very creative, with a special mention to the deserts! The wine was good too and nothing to say about the quality of service: the waiter was very available and smiling, and he described us very well the different dishes. And to conclude, the prices are... More

We live about an hours drive and this is our first visit to Modena. We both agreed this was one of our best meals in Italy. It was Sunday and many restaurants were closed. We were thrilled to arrive to find Pomodoro open and empty. We had the place to ourselves, most importantly Marco our server had plenty of time... More

Food is an interesting mix of tradition and creativity. This is why it is not easy to choose what to eat if you are not from Modena (even more difficult for foreigners). However the atmosphere is very friendly and people serving you are extremely kind so they'll be more than happy to help you make a decision. Good selection of... More
