Unmissable

This place is actually a food instituion in Modena. If you want taste great traditional cuisine you must have a lunch here where you will also enjoy the funny jokes of Ermes the landlord. The taste of food is simply delicious.

We showed up with five people. The restaurant was full but the crew invited us back three quarters later. We were welcomed in a most friendly manner and had a great real italian meal. The chef and the owner joint our table at each ciurse to explain the dishes. Three hours later and very satisfied we said goodby.

We were lucky to get in. Six people showing up at Ermes, with it´s no reservations policy and a long line of people outside, all we could do was hope. Hope that our taxi driver Simon actually knew the famous Ermes and had put in a good word for us. Getting seated in the tiny, crowded dining room was amazing.... More

looks like it's a very local restaurant being visited by lots of tourist. We were attracted to there as well. The restaurant has no menu and the receipt has no price breakdown (only give you a total price). We ordered a salami with local bread, a plate of macaroni and bottle water. The bill was euro 25. Since the owner... More

The experience starts queuing in front of the entrance. Ermes rarely smiles, but everybody will understand him speaking Modenese dialect. Once you are in, most probably the table will be shared with other guest. food is good, wine also but he atmosphere is worth a stop in Modena. A lot of fun, especially for the foreigners.

We were lucky and there were only 2 couples waiting ahead of us. We didn't speak any Italian and Ermes speaks no English. This made for one of the best experiences we have ever had. This is a restaurant run by a man who loves what he is doing, and Ermes seems to be one of the old pillars of... More

I can't believe I lived in Modena for 5 years without ever going to Ermes. Now that I don't live there anymore, I made the effort to eat there while on holiday. Ermes was so accommodating towards me and my active 22month old, making sure she had something suitable to eat too, and they modified a dish especially for us... More

Just like having an Italian mum cooking your favorite dish, great atmosphere and tasty food, the garlic infused pork ribs and pasta dishes were so good.

In my opinion, Osteria da Ermes embodies the true essence of Italy and our experience there left us smiling for the rest of the day. This should be the top restaurant in the area! We turned up 15 minutes early and waited outside until Ermes started inviting people in. We were sat at the same table as two lovely older... More

We had to try the restaurant after reading reviews. What a delight it turned out to be. We arrived toward the end of lunch service and had to wait until a table was available. We then sat at a communal table, rather simple but homely. There is no menu, the owner asked us what we would like. Fortunately for us... More
