Tipical, good food, not so cheap but neither too expensive

Il Fantino is a small restaurant, with tipical local food. Nice, clean, not very large, in a small street in the heart of the town. Not cheap, but neither too expensive. A nice place. Really "Modenese", it's in the same place since many years.

We happened on Il Fantino while there was a festival going on in Modena, and all the restaurants were very busy. The staff was incredibly hospitable, and we let them suggest a typical Modenese menu for us. The meal and the atmosphere were both wonderful. One of the highlight meals of our 2 week trip to Paris and Italy.

Stopped here for lunch and found it very enjoyable. Hubby and I had the mixed sliced meat platter with parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar as an antipasta. We followed this with the chicken in balsamic (hubby) and the scallopine. We also had the chocolate salami dessert and something with cream and layers of flat dough... I've forgotten the name but... Oh my god. The food was delicious I felt like being pampered in the most exclusive spa. It s a sensual valse of flavors and aromas combining in pure delight and memories from my Italian gramma.

are you looking for a typical Modenese cuisine downtown ? A stop at Trattoria Fantino is a MUST. Primi piatti and typical Modena main course are excellent here. I will hardly reccommend this place.

Had lunch here on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The house red is a cheap and cheerful Lambrusco, surprisingly good value. Cooking was excellent and service was welcoming.

Worth a trip to Modena just to eat here. Best gnocchi ever, tortellini in brodo to die for. Reservations a must as the restaurant was packed with locals. It is noisy, very casual, but who cares when the food is this good. Modena has a reputation for the best food in Italy and we can see why. Also very reasonable.... More

We ate here during a recent visit to the area. Food was excellent and service great too. Met some very friendly Italian people on the next table who ate there often. Ended up with a free glass of limencello to share with our new friends. You won't be disappointed if you eat here.

Tucked away on Via Donzi just off the Main Street in the old part of Modena is the il fantino trattoria. What can I say- absolutely delicious food at reasonable prices with great service. We ate there twice at 7.30 as they needed the table at 9. Don't miss it - it's a real treat !!
