nouvelle cuisine and minimalist

The chef at this restaurant is very competent and original. His food is minimalist, nouvelle cuisine. What he does is well done, but I personally do not like this concept. If I like a dish I want a decent serving and if I don't like it then I don't want it at all. For people like me, if you... read more

We were extremely well served here but the food lacked that Michelin star quality ., the ideas are there but the flavour is not. We had a great experience but not a great dinner and for the wine matched with each course when you use the same wine for 3 courses its not quite the same !!

I don't get this place. The venue was good and the service was great, friendly and helpful. But the food, I don't get it. On the positives, the portion size mentioned in previous reviews was not an issue the dishes where generous by mitchelin star standards, the bread kept coming and my wine was topped up during the wine flight.... The quality of the products used is beyond any doubt, just excellent. But the way the chef has found the right balance between the different tastes is just mind-blowing. As an example, try the salmon with chocolate and spinach... It doesn't get any better than this. Nice touch: this is a chef that is humble and gets is pleasure from... More

A nice cuisine is served here based on quality produces, well selected all, really known culinary techniques, and a cuisine that roots in the Modenese tradition, seriously revised. The only thing is that it is not revised enough to be trendy and really new. Al together it's a place that worth a visit, once. I did it, once! And I... More

A group of friends we came here for the tasting menu. The place is elegant and staff are friendly and professional. There were a few food requests from our side ( no fish for him, no beef or rabbit for him...) which were accommodated admirably. So far so good. Except the food while always pretty to look at never really... More

We´ve been to L'Erba del Rei for the third time and this time was even better than the last ones. We had the espressione menu (10 dishes) and though I have a lot of allergies they managed to take care of them during the whole meal (starting from the bread selection and ending with the petit fours). We had some... More

I've been there for my birthday and I've selected menu a la carte. I didn't like the quality and the taste of the food even if the service and the atmosphere was really nice. Overall the value for money it's not satisfactory!

We came to L'Erba De Re after a long day of traipsing around Modena's thoroughfares and window shopping. As a result, I was ill-at-ease amid the refined surroundings of this rather posh eaterie. That said, the staff were courteous and attentive, but not overbearing (although being completely alone in the dining room ironically made us feel more self-conscious than not).... More

A second visit to L'Erba Del Rey more than lived up to our expectations. Service was refined and welcoming and we were pleased to meet the chef/owner Luca Marchini half way through our meal. The food was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish, whether rich and traditional or light and modern. Chef Marchini really straddles both styles with great... More
