If you like hot chocolate, this is the place to go. There are many varieties of hot chocolate, such as with pistachio or orange. Definitely delicious.

Drop by this little café just East of the town centre near the student district for some delightful handmade pastries and chocolates and a wide variety of ice creams. Try some of the more exotic flavours or go for the classic chocolate fondant and stracciatella. A great treat while wandering the streets of Bologna. Price: 2 ice cream, 2 scoops... More

We liked this place better than some places that are more highly rated on TA. Creamier, tastier gelato. On a main street for walking into town, but part of the urban street chaos, so you need to look for it. Worth searching out.

We had ice creams from this gelateria a few times during our holiday. It is a few minutes walk from the centre of the city and not as prominent as some of the others, so keep your eyes peeled. For anyone staying at the hotel Aemilia, you will most likely walk past everyday on your way into the centre, and... More

This artisanal gelateria is worth the effort! I went to graduate school in Bologna 10 years ago near here and loved it then. I went back recently with classmates and it was as good as I remember! The chocolate-orange combinations is one of my favorites. The quality is outstanding and they have some clever combinations that are hard to find... More

Decent ice cream by Bologna standards - high if you are from outside Italy. The chocolate orange ice cream is very good (if you like that combination)

Okay, this has got to be the best Gelato in all of Italy. I've tried many gelato in my day, but this one. Man, this one. It's not too heavy and it's not too light either. It's just your everyday Gelato. I recommend the Regno Delle Due Sicile. THE BEST.

We found Il Gelatauro through Alex at Taste of Italy. We mentioned that we loved gelato, and she told us that she and her husband had tried almost every gelateria in Bologna and Il Gelatauro was hands-down their favorite. When an Italian recommends a gelateria, you have to give it a try! We stopped on our way back to the... More

We found out about Gelatauro when we had some of their unbelievable coffee and gelato and cookies at the Monday Evening food market in Bologna. Needless to say, we got directions to the shop and had a delightful breakfast there the next morning. Went back several times and were delighted every time. Totally worth the trip away from the centre... More

I studied in Florence and in Bologna through the University of California exchange program. Initially, when you visit Italy, you think all of the gelato is good, from gelaterias smack in the middle in a town square to the ones in narrow side alleyway type deals. The usual display of gelato flavors involve mountains of fluorescent colored gelato galore. In... More
