This is why you go to Bologna!

Let's cut to the chase here: this is a nice place, white linen, elegant tableware, attentive staff, etc...but the FOOD!! Holy crow, it was right out of any "Best of Italy" article you've ever read. From the Parma ham/cantaloupe thru ragu pasta, lasagna, a carnivore's heaven. The only problem you... read more

We visited this after reading reviews on trip advisor. Lovely little restaurant, just tucked away off Main Street mr Maggiore. The good was excellent quality, I wanted to try a traditional Ragu and was not disappointment, tasted great. The desert however had the best I have had in ages! I think it was the traditional bologna rice cake, so tasty!!!... More

We stopped into this restaraunt just off the east wall of San Petronia for lunch. The food and service were perfect. All four of the diners in our group agreed that this was the finest meal we had during our entire 10 day stay.

Came across this restaurant close to Piazza Maggiore and encouraged by a number of Italian families eating there decided to stay for dinner. The food was wonderful, the lasagne the best I've ever eaten. The menu is short but everything we ordered was delicious. In contrast the wine list is extensive, we were spoiled for choice. The cost was a... More

We ate here on my husband's birthday, having been recommended it by our hotel. It was quiet when we arrived at 8.30pm, but within a few minutes was packed, and had a very good atmosphere. We shares the anti pasta starter of cold meats and parmigiano, huge and excellent! Then both tried the steak..Filetto di Manzo, with the rosemary and... More

We had lunch and dinner at this charming restaurant on our last day in Bologna. We dined outside in a quiet lane just off one of the many pedestrian shopping streets running off the Piazza Maggiore in the heart of the old city. We enjoyed a delicious mortadella and Parmesan soufflé, poached egg and asparagus, tagliatelle Bolognese, and a wonderful,... More

We first visited for lunch and it was so good we came back for dinner. The soft boiled egg with asparagus and brioche is just lovely, as is the guinea fowl. One of the waiters, perhaps the owner, says that wine is his passion and he is very careful about temperatures, the right wine for the food, etc. The desserts... More

I was about to write a long, flowery description of how we happened upon this remarkable little restaurant, but I simply don't have the time. Sufficient to state here that this was one of the half-dozen most fortuitous accidental culinary discoveries of all my forty years-plus of travel. And again, keeping this necessarily brief I will just say one word... More

We walked in here without reservations- the key was to show up when they opened at 7pm- we got the last seats in the house. The service was really good and the food was excellent- especially the cured meat plate, the potato souffle, the lasagne wad really delicious!

If you're looking for a quick snack of dried pasta and a pizza washed down with a carafe of Rosso, then keep searching for this is a place where the chef knows how to cook and the sommelier knows his extensive wines, many of which are not too expensive. Every aspect was better than expected and made a very delightful... More
