We were staying at the nearby Porta San Mamolo and some of our fellow guests seemed to be eating here too! We can see why they recommended it, the food was delicious and the prices were fair. We tried the ragu bolognese of course, which was nice, although we particularly enjoyed the beef with porcini. The meatballs with courgettes were... More

Al Sangiovese provided us the perfect first night in Bologna experience. Away from all the tourist crowds on a small residential street just inside the walls, we couldn't have picked a better place to experience Bolognese cuisine. The Tagliatelle ragu was wonderful and perfectly cooked as was the polpette. I tried my kids' cotelleta alla Bolognese and it was delicious.... More

Real jewel of a neighbourhood restaurant, this (and just round the corner from Osteria al 15, which is equally good). Friendly owners, serving food sourced from local ingredients in accordance with slow food principles. Among others, we had the tortellini im brodo and the truffle risotto, both very good. The wine list is dominated, as you'd expect, by sangiovese, local... More

Had an amazing 3 course dinner here to celebrate our 2.5 year anniversary. The food was delicious and came in big portions. The wine we were recommended was one of the best we had in Italy and paired beautifully with the dinner. Service was great and our server was friendly and very knowledgeable.

Excellent little restaurant, food tasting wonderful, as if home made carefully. the simple pasta with ragu sauce tastes so delicious, that I don't know how to deal with it after I return to my home country. The wine list is also decent.

Positioned on the southern edge of the old city amongst the lanes and walkways filled with local students and residents is a great example of traditional italian cuisine. The starters of Risotto Sangiovese was a simple combination of salty speck and Sangiovese wines to make up a perfectly aldente combination of flavour. The main of seared beef wrapped in prosciutto... I am actually torn between 2 and 3 stars. I guess I am giving 3 because of the atmosphere. I ordered the truffle risotto.. and it was good, but nothing special. Steak dish, tagliateli bolognese, side of veggies, and desert were quite boring. I Wine was good. Most disappointing was the service.. nice, but unattentive.. and at one point they... More

What a find! This restaurant has been going for 10 years but it looks like it's been there forever. They take a huge amount of care over every dish, every coffee and are happy to suggest things you might like, especially those that typify the cuisine of Bologna. On a hot July night it's a bit warm inside but the... More

This was our first night out in Bologna. We reserved a table for 20:00 during the day, and that seemed to be a good decision as people were turned down as we ate. The staff is friendly and their English is surprising good. We ordered a large antipasti to share and two primi. They recommended that we waited to order... More
