My reservation, made by the hotel, wasn't on their books but they gave me a table anyway and provided excellent service and very good food. The food--perhaps my selections, green lasagna with Bolognese sauce and scaloppini with asparagus were to blame--was very good but not amazing.

This restaurant is tucked away close to the Porta San Mamolo gate to the south of the city. A traditional family run trattoria providing fabulous freshly cooked dishes, most definitely the best meal we had in our time on Bolognia (and we ate very well!). Staff are very happy to provide recommendations and suggest which sangiovese wine will best accompany... More

A truly Bolognese experience. These people know exactly what they are cooking. Such a friendly lovely place, wonderful food. Highly recommended, if we were were back in Bologna it would be our first choice. Steps away from Porta San Mamolo Hotel.

Family run, small restaurant with friendly staff and excellent local food and wine. Complete relaxation and excellent value. Felt very much at home.

Had dinner here during a weekend in Bologna and was definitely the best meal of the trip. A welcoming and relaxing restaurant with friendly and accommodating staff. Traditional, fresh and extremely tasty Bolognese cuisine. Good choice of wine. A shared starter and pasta dish each was very filling but thankfully we were tempted by the home made chocolate cake -... More

I arrived in Bologna in the early evening, was staying at the Hotel Porta San Mamolo and didn't want to go far for dinner. Al Sangiovese was at the end of the street and looked interesting. To start, I had mortadella with parmesan, or was it grano? The mortadella came in thick triangles and to be honest, didn't have much... More

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to dine here, because when I went it was fully booked. It's in a small alley, and although its still within the centre of Bologna, you have to kind of know about it and go for it. If it was fully booked it must be good! A bit out of the way, south of piazza maggiore (right next to the viale), this casual neighborhood spot has all the bolognese classics, with - wait for it - Sangiovese being the centerpiece. Pretty much anything the owner (who is probably your waiter too) recommends will be worth getting - mind you, what he recommends may or may not... More
