Our first day in Bologna and after a tough day of sight-seeing we made our way here for our meal after reading countless number of positive reviews. We were excited to try proper Italian food and see how different it was to our versions back at home. We were instantly greeted by the most amazing, friendly waitress we have ever... More

We had lunch here twice – small restaurant with local food – the risotto with mushrooms was very good – so was the local wine. We had a local antipasta a la sangiovese that we shared – very delicious but overwhelming in size. Staff very efficient and friendly.

Sangiovese was right across the street from our hotel, Porto San Mamalo. We enjoyed our dinner so much the first night we were there, that we came back for seconds! Both evenings we had a lovely waitress, Antoinella, who was cheerful and efficient. Her recommendations were delicious. A great place to eat when in Bologna.

The restaurant is close to the Porta San Mamolo and the interior is warm and welcoming. It has a local following which augured well. Our waitress was quick to take our order and my home made strozzapreti with porcini, peas and bacon soon arrived. They were absolutely delicious and the serving was generous. I ordered grilled vegetables and scamorza as... More

This restaurant is in the same small street (Vicolo del Falcone) as the Hotel Porta San Mamolo. We tried to get a table on our first night in Bologna but it was fully booked - a good sign on a Thursday. We booked for the following night as it was highly recommended by the ever-helpful staff of the hotel. We... More

A family restaurant with great food & service. We had an enjoyable, lovely dinner. The waitress, who I think might be one of the owners, was not only helpful, but also fun.

No nonsense, no pretension, just a plain simple family run excellent place for dinner. When the owner recognizes you after 2 years, you know he is paying attention to good service

We had driven into Bologna earlier in the day and walked to the centro from our Hotel Porto San Mamolo twice in one day, and just needed a quiet meal minutes from the hotel. Al Sangiovese did not disappoint. It was very friendly, and the food was delicious. We had the choice of tables at 7:30 pm and enjoyed a... More

We chose Al Sangiovese as it was just at the end of the road from our hotel and had received good reviews. We were not disappointed! The dark wood interior is atmospeheric. The service was excellent; the waitress was friendly and helpful, and spoke English when our Italian proved inadequate. We were not especially hungry and she was quite happy... More

This for us was the top of our list for repeat business as it had all the right ingredients, not just great food prepared to perfection in a traditional style but the service from the Father Mother and Son was to be remembered as was the wine selection. It was recommended to us by our hotel staff just a few... More
