Best Pizza on the Trip

We visited Rome, Florence, Bologna, and Venice and this was by far the best pizza on the entire trip. It doesn't look like much from the outside and we had not planned on visiting, but thought we would give it a try. This pizza was so delicious! It was doughy and the ingredients were fresh. Visiting Bologna on a budget? PizzAltero is your place. They make large sheets of pizza that you buy by the slice. They scoop it out of the pan, throw it in some sheets of paper, and send you on your way. The lines are long during lunch but they move quickly. This is no-frills to-go food that tastes fine. It's... This place has really gone downhill recently. Plus points: Okay, it's cheap and has convenient, central locations Minus points: ... but the quality is not good at all. Flabby, cold, tasteless pizzas that leave you feeling bloated like Pavarotti. The staff are about as pleasant as gastroenteritis. There is hardly anywhere to sit Everyone shoves in front of everyone else... More

Pizza Altero should NOT be your destination if you are in Bologna for a limited time and you are looking for the authentic, Emilia Romanga decadent culinary adventure. But for what it is - a popular, simple counter service that serves squares of tasty pizza with a variety of toppings (cheese, ham, onions, vegetables, etc) for a euro or two... More

the pizza is tasty, and locations are perfect, as an alternative to panino o McDonald's, but the pieces are very small and for such a small slice the price is too high=((((

The pizza was fantastic with fresh ingredients. Staff was friendly. We even misplaced our receipt but they still honored what we purchased. Seems like a place where the locals go for a quick slice.

For my money, the best pizza I had during my Italian holiday. The woman behind the counter was a hoot!

Pizzeria Altero is very popular in Bologna. It's usual, among youngest crowd but not only, to have a piece (better: two) of their pizza walking downtown. Don't expect it'll sate you: it's a snack instead of a pizza. Very light, a lot of air in it (apparently, they use a lot of yeast). The price is however very affordable.
