Indeed a great Carbonara.

This restaurant is frequented by tourists as well as Italiens. I had the praisen Carbonara, which was fantastic. My sister had the veal in marsala sauce, which was also perfect. She got a little green salat as a side dish. Unfortunately she was not offered any oil or venegar. Also we asked for the... read more

I completely agree with the comments about portion size. We each ordered a meal and only half of us were able to completely finish our portions. But they were each tasty! The carbonara and ravioli were both exceptional and we lingered for a long time eating, drinking and talking in this treasure of a restaurant. This did not feel "touristy"... More

Ok. I've always wondered how Italians can eat three courses especially when the pasta is so huge! This restaurant was the same! Amazing pasta carbonara but way to big for one person. I totally recommend sharing a pasta course then Sharing a Main. And I'm a big eater. My wife and I shared 2 bottles of water, 1 bottle of... More

Located in a more a more family oriented section of Trastevere, Da Carlone's blew my husband and I away. Having eaten in Italy for 10 years (for research), this is one of the best places I have ever eaten in Italy. While many of the meat dishes on the menu depend on personal tastes, the pasta dishes, each one, are... More

Seemed to be full of locals which I take as a very good sign. Pasta was excellent and the wine was good too. The service left a little to be desired but wouldn't stop me from going back. It is very warm inside, I recommend getting a seat outside.

On a lovely little side street on the quieter side of Trastevere district, this is a very traditional family-run trattoria. It's not as cheap as it was 10 years ago, but the quality of the food is if anything better. Avoid the bruschette at 4 euros a piece and go for the reasonably priced and delicious pasta dishes, or the... More

Our host at the Guest House Arco dei Tolomei directed us to this restaurant when we were staying in Rome in 2007. We had a wonderful time then, having gnocchi family style and house wine, both of which were delicious and inexpensive. We returned to Rome on the 2nd of June this year, and were happy to go back to... More

Very easy to be tricked into eating in tourist traps in Rome. This is definitely not the case!! best food I had in the city! Local food served by local people, it can't get better than that.

On recommendationof our host we visited Da Corleine and had the best experience we ever had in Italy. A truly authentic place packed with locals (which is always a good sign). The carbonara was the greateat I have ever had, even better than the one I had a day before and thougt that was the best. No, this topped all... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
