Quiet, nicely decorated, excellent taste and presentation

Our group of 8 ate lunch and were very happy with the ravioli and red house wine. It was quite enough we could all hear each other as the customers were spaced out for comfort and privacy. The down-side is a bit pricey, although I didn't see the final bill. Pleasant decor, excellent service, non-intrusive but attentive, very quiet, excellent for conversation, I had fish filled homemade ravioli with pomegranates. Very fresh and homemade, but not abundant portions. Friends had gnocchi and tagliatelle that looked at least as delicious and more generous portions than my ravioli.

Behind busy Borgo Pio this lovely small restaurant has a really interesting menu - I enjoyed sea bass and saffron ravioli and a lovely orange souffle like pudding - make sure you don't miss out!

With seeing all the good reviews i had to try this nice restaurant of course. And ..its a gem...small, nothing special from the outside, inside cosy and special atmosphere. The lady recieved me with a smile, friendly, helpfull. They have fixed menus but also a la carte. Its a chef who dares to innovate the recepies..loved the food. The combination... More

We spent our last dinner here with my husband during our vacation in Rome based on earlier reviews. Thanks for the idea! the food was very good, the service very kind. My husband ate veal Milanese style with safrone risotto, I had the day's choice, which was rabbit with sage, both delicious, however my husband found the portion a little... More

Trip Advisor had this resturant very highly rated and it was correct. A quaint little place on a back street near the Vatican, family run with fabulous food and a great wine selection. It was a peaceful place where you can talk (and be heard) at dinner. The saffron risotto and the Osso buco was the best I have ever... More

Being Brits, we like to have our meal "early" like 7pm. We found the lights off and were just about to meander off somewhere else when the owner saw us and invited us in. The best meals I've had have been produced by female chefs , and this was no exception - the menu was compact and what we had... More

This was an absolutely delightful dining experience in a quiet "out of the way" residential area very near the Vatican. My wife and I were introduced to Velando by a priest just after a private tour of the Vatican. It seems Velando is a favorite place for many who live and work in Vatican City. Like the locals, we found... More

After reading the excellent reviews we decided to give Velando a try. Our perception was a bit clouded by the fact that we were the only diners in the restaurant for our entire 2+ hour meal. Arriving around 8:30 the atmosphere was quiet as a tomb and remained so throughout the meal, which we tried to enjoy as a private... More

This is small delightful family run restaurant situated in a quiet street close to the Vatican. The food is freshly prepared and is typical Italian cuisine. It is a place to take one's time and savour really good cooking. There is a very acceptable wine list and the staff are particularly helpful in recommending wine to accompany the chosen dishes.... Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
