After reading the excellent reviews we decided to give Velando a try. Our perception was a bit clouded by the fact that we were the only diners in the restaurant for our entire 2+ hour meal. Arriving around 8:30 the atmosphere was quiet as a tomb and remained so throughout the meal, which we tried to enjoy as a private... More

This is small delightful family run restaurant situated in a quiet street close to the Vatican. The food is freshly prepared and is typical Italian cuisine. It is a place to take one's time and savour really good cooking. There is a very acceptable wine list and the staff are particularly helpful in recommending wine to accompany the chosen dishes.... Just got back from two week vacation in Rome and got the chance to eat several times at Velando. We were introduced to this restaurant by a Monsignor who has been with the Vatican for 50 years and truly knows what is good around the area. This is a charming restaurant that might have no more than 10 tables (If... More

We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel and what a find it turned out to be. The restaurant is quite small but you get the feeling that you are dining in the home of the owners. The food was anabsolute delight and the service was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble even if it... More

If you are planning a visit to the Vatican City or Vatican Museums, this is yur place for a nice lunch or dinner after an intense and tiring day. I was there for lunch but being a little place with no day light inside you could hardly tell the difference. A lovely lady will welcome you and will describe you... More

This is my second time eating at Velando... it is right around the corner from the Vatican and is absolutely charming! The owner is so friendly, and she will make fabulous suggestions (including wine pairings). Her English is pretty good, so that was lucky for us! Our food was delicious, and the meal ended with a complimentary Limoncello and a... More

It's not cheap (€10-20 for starters and 1st plates and €15-30 for 2nd plates. A bottle of the very good "house" red wine was €15) but it's worth it. Dishes are perfectly prepared, fresh and flavorful. Sausage ravioli was good, pumpkin ravioli was great, steak was very good, and risottos were also very good. I wouldn't go out of my... More

Velando is one of my favorite places in Rome. You can always count on a meal that is quiet, elegant, but not expensive. It is a small place, which contributes to the nice atmosphere. The cuisine is northern Italian--Lombardian, which is a nice alternative in Rome. The owner herself tends to the tables and always is very welcoming and pleasant.... More

This restaurant which we picked upon reading about it in the Timeout guide would have been average and overpriced if not for my husband's main course - Veal Milanese - which was the worst Veal Milanese I have ever tasted anywhere! It is difficult to ruin this dish - a breaded veal cutlet, unfortunately as my husband was cutting it... More
