So...this place is recommended in several Rome guide books, the Obamas ate here (so the waiters claim) and it's packed all the time. My only question is, why? Decent service if you can get past the Casenova-approach to waiting on tables, cheap house wine (very cheap!), rustic surroundings (and not in a necessarily complementary way unless you like musty smelling... more

My husband and I ate here and loved it. We didn't have a reservation and we were still seated right away, however, we got there early (at 8pm). I suggest reservations because we saw a lot of people turned away because they didn't have a reservation. Seems to be very busy with italian clientele which is always a good sign.... more

The Food, Ambience, and service were spectacular, particularly the food. To sit by the kitchen and watch them make the pasta from scratch and then prepare you food as you watch was a delight. Sitting outside runs the risk of smokers but I would suggest the room in which the kitchen is located. The chicken Cacciatore is the best I... more

The four of us all agreed that this was the most enjoyable restaurant in our 10 days in Italy. The food was simple (what we ordered) but very fresh, clean, and just a delightful 3 1/2 hour dinner. The service was flawless. Since we did not have reservations, we chose to sit in the basement but it was still a... more

Maccheroni was delicious and reasonably priced, if hard to find. Maps in pocket-sized books aren't precise, and this place isn't conveniently located at a cross section, but it's worth circling around for. We ate there twice - after lunch they gave us complimentary espresso, and after dinner complimentary limoncello. The house wine is cheap, good and the servers are....interesting. At... more

Date of Review: October 15, 2009 We had spent the prior 9 days in Tuscany and the Lakes region of Italy and were in Rome for the final 2 days of our trip. I went onto the Web to look for recommendations and found Marcheroni to be one of the top restaurants in Rome. For us, it was a disaster:... more

The food here was really good. It's not inexpensive, but the prices are not over-the-top either, I'd say mid-range. I believe a pasta dish costs 11 euros or so, but worth the price. The salads are very nice as well (the spinach, parmigianno and pinoli salad was great!). The atmosphere is great as well--the kitchens are encased in glass so... more

We had lunch at Maccheroni about a week ago or so and it was great. We tried four different pastas and each was excellent. Their carbonara was one of the best we had in Rome. Great matraciana and their Grecia (sp?), it is an amatraciana without tomatoes, was excellent. And we cook a heck of lot of pasta. Service was... more

My husband and I were very disappointed in bothe the food and service here. We didn't have a reservation and were treated very rudely because of this. After waiting 30 min we were eventually seated and told we would have 1/2 hour to eat and the would have to leave. We almost left at that point (I wish we had)... more

Despite the frequent presence of celebrities (tv and movie actors) and the recent visit of the Obama family the food is very reasonably priced and really good. The ambience is unpretentious and cosy and the service is warm and personable. I have been there twice during my stay in Rome and on both occasions we left the restaurant with a... more
