make reservations days in advance and go early! let the owner suggest dishes for you and wine to match -- tasty local dishes - meats, pastas, vegetables etc.

My husband and I asked to be put on the waiting list on a Friday evening and managed to get a seat at 10pm. (There are plenty of bars nearby where you can quell your hunger/thirst with an aperitivo, and you can also catch the light show at the Forum of Augustus if you have more time to kill.) We... More

Obviously an institution by now. Alessio, his wife and two children lord over fine food and friendly service. Creative twists on classic dishes, but always true to fine ingredients and tradition. Carbonara with ziti instead of tonarelli, enhanced with fava beans and peas was delicious. Polpettone of veal was tangy. Polpette of lamb deep fried were crispy but a bit... More

Our Colliseum tour guide recommended this restaurant for lunch. Sounds like even for lunch a reservation is a good idea. We ate just as the restaurant opened and it became fairly crowded. The food was excellent, home made tasty pastas, lovely sauces, wonderful. Our only glitch was a side of vegetables was forgotten and never came. A minor mishap in... More

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel and they made the reservation, without which you would not get a table. We had a table outside and dined as we watched the world go by. We eat from the Specials menu and all our choices were excellent. We shared an appetiser and without requesting it, 2 extra plates were bought,... More

If you are in the area, book a table here - if you don't book, it will be full. Excellent cooking. Not to be missed

Was looking forward to eating here after reading TA reviews and having been unable to get in a couple of nights before. We booked for Saturday night and first impressions were favourable. Nice restaurant, friendly, helpful staff but sadly the food was a huge let down. I guess I should have been suspicious at the length of the 'specials' menu... More

We asked our Hotel Desk where the locals eat and given La Taverna as a suggestion. We tried the first night to get in but they were booked but offered an alternative and made us a reservation for the next night. When we arrived they remembered us and seated us right away and it felt as is we were regulars.... More

The staff were incredibly welcoming, very friendly and great service. The food was tasty and cooked really well. Nice house wine at a good price. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal for my wife and I. Will definitely return.
