Although our hotel promised us that this Osteria was not touristy this is exactly what it was. Not an Italian to be seen. The food was OK, nothing special and for an Osteria it was overpriced - 13.50 euros for a meat antipasto that was served with sun dried tomatoes and gherkins!! PLEASE! After having been in places like Parma,... more

Our guidebook said that a "Ristorante" is high-end, "Trattoria" a little more casual, and "Osteria" a very casual family style restaurant. Even though this place has "Osteria" in the name, it's definitely a "Ristorante". VERY good food (I can't say enough about those tortellinis), but expect high-end restaurant prices. 4 Euros for a small bottle of coke, anyone? In planning... more

I'd actually give it 3.5 stars. Food was okay - certainly not the best meal we had in Italy, but definitely adequate if you are looking for a casual dinner in a pretty setting. We went there on our first night in Italy... were tired but still wanted a decent meal. This was only five minutes on foot from our... more

This restaurant is located in a seclued but famous street in Rome Via Margutta, only few meters away from Spanish Square. Food is excellent and is real Italian. One might think that this is a tourist trap like many other restaurants in touristic zone in Rome. This is not at all. Try to eat the the Amatriciana pasta done according... more

You have to be intentionally wanting to find this place because it's on what I would call a back street, and worth the search. The menu is only in Italian, but the staff speaks enough English to help. The wine list is divided by region and they had more seafood than other places. Five of us had two starters, five... more

26th may 2009... I had dinner with a Roman friend at 10:30 at night, with the kitchen closing at 10:45... he chose the spot after a evening at the theatre... the atmosphere was fine, a bit bohemian... very few tourists... I had pasta and fish dishes, both of which were average... the house wine was good... the deserts were on... more

Our first night in Rome and what a delightful way to experience italian food and hospitality. It is a small restaurant on a quiet side street, close to the Spanish Steps. We sat outside to enjoy the warm evening. The service was very efficient and friendly. Reading the menu was difficult as it was only in italian, but the staff... more

We wandered into this restaurant down the street from our hotel. What a find! The true Roman food and the service were superb. The recommended local wine was excellent. The red-white-blue decor makes a cheerful yet elegant setting for a memorable meal. Located on quiet and interesting Via Margutta. more

The Osteria Margutta is a charming, reliable and wonderful dining experience only steps away from the Piazza di Spagna. It is located on a small, countrylike street noted for its artists. Andrea Tidei has combined the meal with surroundings that suggest sophistication and the mood of a time gone by. The background music is a perfect accompaniment. For a romantic... more

This restaurant was a fantastic find, recommended by the hotel when we asked for somewhere that was more about great food than elegance and somewhere that the locals would go to. Situated in a lovely quiet street just 3 minutes from Piazza di Spagna, this is a romantic setting even through we went with a large family group. It was... more
