Paying for the view

The food is so so, and prices isn't cheap. But the area surrounding is amazing. So just sitt down and enjoy a bottle of wine.

I know others have reviewed that you are paying extra for the location/view if you are sitting outside. This is true but I thought it was worth it and enjoyed this place immensely. I had bread, pasta with tomatoes and basil which was so delicious! Also got lucky with a fantastic white wine picked randomly. Nice place and good company... More

Now, Trastevere is one of the most popular and folksy places in Rome. Lots and lots of atmosphere, quite touristy too. Piazza Santa Maria is where you will find this restaurant. Choose the outside seating even on a chilly evening - there is heating - because that is where you can best enjoy the view towards one of the most... More

We had lunch during our short visit of the Trastevere area. We were recommended this restaurant by our taxi driver, saying it was for local people and not for tourists (!!!!). The location - Located on piazza Santa Maria in Tastevere on the other side of the church, it is very well located. The service - good; The waiter gave... More

Since so many Roman restaurants close on Sunday take this day as an opportunity to cross the Tibor and experience a different aspect of Roman life. Trastatevere is funky and a bit of a throw back to hippie times but Sabatini's offers true Roman service, food, and wine choices. Enjoy a leisurely meal while watching the action on the main... Me & my Fiancé visited this restaurant on my birthday & we're very pleased with the experience. The location was beautifully placed in a square, facing a Grand church & water fountain which had street performers in front. The service was Top Notch & the food was amazing. There was a few Older gentlemen who either ran the business or... More

We were told that there was a wonderful trattoria in the Trastevere area. When we went there it was closed. Instead we were lucky enough to find Sabatini nearby. It sets the standard of Italian fine dining. We had a table under the shades. The mixed seafood pasta dishes were outstanding, seafood soups were rich but yet full of flavours.... More

We had the best cannelones served by the 2 owner gentlemen here, highly recommended! The location was also really nice!

Huge charge on bill that is in small print. Do NOT order market price fish, they will charge you very expensive. The pasta was good but everything is 50% inflated in pricing. Find other places!

We went here on our final night of a four day city break. All in all the eateries have been superb but we were extremely disappointed here. The food was very expensive and not great, we were charged service which was poor anyway and then had a fracas with a waiter over our taxi. My girlfriend chose the steak which... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
