An uninteresting restaurant

We ate fried codfish and maccheroni amatriciana. The fish didn't seem to be cod (because ot the "pastella") and the service was very slow although there were only 6 customers.

A librarian from the Lincean Academy recommended Romolo, perhaps the closest restaurant, and we waited until our final dinner in Rome to dine here. On a clear Sunday evening, with fall in the air, we sat in the enclosed garden next to a warming heater, among murmuring guests and attentive waiters. We chose fettucini with black truffles to share for... More

Maybe a bad day for the staff and chef but this should not happen. Cannot recommend this place as it would take a completely "make over"

Situated at Trastevere at the place that is regarded to be a palace of Rafael's lover - the famous Fornarina from his portrait. Elegant with very profesional and polite service and food really worth eating until the last spoon. I was there in winter so there was not any problem with the table but I think that during the high... More

The garden is always our final dinner site when in Rome. Their staff aims to please and always does. Lamb chops are a winner. Our party of 6 all came away very satisfied. After dinner "digestivos" always appreciated. Reservations suggested. This site is in the Trastevere section and they open at 8:00 PM.

We have just returned from a week in Rome. we ate at 13 restaurants & this is easily in our top three. In fact this is my wife's favourite. In terms of environment, you will be (allegedly) sitting in a small courtyard that Raphael (Raffaello)'s girlfriend frequented while she lived in the building. The food was delightful. We both had... There are quite a few mixed reviews here, especially around the staff which surprises me as I recently had the best experience here... I recently got married in Rome and held my wedding reception for 60 guess at the Romolo. I chose the restaurant simply based on pictures because the courtyard setting was just what I wanted. It is safe... More

By not being a tourist and being particularly picky on food I tend to never commit a mistake on choosing a restaurant. However, brought by friends, I personally witnessed one of the worst restaurants in town which proves that it's truly hard to find good food in Trastevere. This restaurant has few Italian clients and fewer (almost none) Italian waiters;... More

I was quite unimpressed with the restaurant, though my wife was more tolerant. Our food ranged from fair to good...with the pasta being far better than the beef dishes. The waiter, however, was abrupt. Had I not been famished, we probably would have left after being shown to our table. There are wonderful restaurants in Rome, but Romolo is nor... More

Lovely courtyard setting, last night of our holiday. Food was reasonable, though a bit expensive. Service was beyond a joke. Brought us the wrong starter, and then only 2 of 3 we had ordered. Had to ask for our wine several times. Then they tried to bring us someone else's main course, and this was happening for other tables too.... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
