Description: In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every...
In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every person who has gone to it, or most of them. Certainly each one of them would have a bit of story kept in the casket of their memories. Memories of unforgettable moment, but above all of a bit of history which has helped our Country to be born again. It was the Sixties and our bar proudly represented the meeting place of the " By nigth " Rome, of the " Dolce vita " (Sweet life), the place where riotous loves were born, where never revealed agreements were signed, were everything was familiar ... This was Harry's Bar. In the hearts of the ones who patronenized it, it never died, despite the hard times. Harry's Bar Rome was born in 1959, took its name only in 1962 but the cafe existed since 1918. It was the Golden Gate Confectioner's, quoted in many books. At the end of the Twenties it became part of the De Gasperis' family until 1958, the very year it cake to be American Bar Restaurant. Today the cafe shines in its Boisseirie, and in its plasters, more then 35 years old, of late renovated, the same feel you got in those years. He who doesn't know Harry's Bar Rome, has now good reason to go and see it. Legendary Harry's Bar is the unique place that evokes tbc "Dolce Vita' as if it were a clip from the film, creating a vivid flashback to the golden era of the Via Veneto, when Frank Sinatra sang at the piano and all the stars made their appearance in this bar/restaurant full of glamour and style. As in the roaring sixties, you can still sip an aperitif, enjoy the live piano bar every evening and dive into tbc magic of the Via Veneto from the exclusive and fascinating Harry's Bar. The refined cuisine recalls the freshness of Mediterranean flavours based on prime ingredients. Tradition and fantasy inspire the elegant dishes of the menu, accompanied by the most prestigious labels and a high class service.

Old school romantic dinner

Lovely dinner, great food, good service, delightful ambience, and the prices to go with it. We loved our dinner and knew it would come at a price. That was okay. The service was commensurate and the quality of the food, the presentation and the rotal experience was delightful.

Nice corner spot for a drink inside or out. Harry's was across the street from our hotel so we decided to stop in for dinner. The atmosphere is nice and lot's of celebrities have eaten here. The food is overpriced and disappointing. The crab in the crab salad was not fresh and that was just the start. The oysters tasted... More

Maybe you used to have famous people there now you are just a bar that sells overpriced undercooked food maybe you should listen to the sat paying customers rather than look over your shoulder at the next euro passing by!!! Ruined our night over priced under cooked couldn't care less about clients it's 2015 not 1960!!!

Don't go there for a drink! It's costly. The bar is not a place for a "breaking the ice" meeting with your business colleagues

We sat outside the ground terrace overlooking Via Veneto and all the posh hotels around us, people passing by , great baroque restaurant with attentive service and great food and drink to match. I had the octopus carpaccio, and shared a roasted turbot for two, it was delicious And I cannot wait to take my wife back there for dinner,... More

I have just paid 11€ for a miniature coke at this place. The location is good, but the quality of the drinks does not at all live up to the price level. It is ridiculous.

We went for dinner (3 of us) on Saturday 29th March and as we did not have a reservation were taken to the nearest table at the back by the kitchen even though there seemed to be empty tables nearer to main hub of the restaurant. I think Harry's still goes on record as the place where I had my most expensive Bellini. That was 3 years ago when my mother and I happened upon Harry's and stopped for a drink.... I liked the outdoors setup of the cafe. Its service was good as well. We only tried caffe latte and some light sweets. The location is very nice.

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
