Description: In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every...
In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every person who has gone to it, or most of them. Certainly each one of them would have a bit of story kept in the casket of their memories. Memories of unforgettable moment, but above all of a bit of history which has helped our Country to be born again. It was the Sixties and our bar proudly represented the meeting place of the " By nigth " Rome, of the " Dolce vita " (Sweet life), the place where riotous loves were born, where never revealed agreements were signed, were everything was familiar ... This was Harry's Bar. In the hearts of the ones who patronenized it, it never died, despite the hard times. Harry's Bar Rome was born in 1959, took its name only in 1962 but the cafe existed since 1918. It was the Golden Gate Confectioner's, quoted in many books. At the end of the Twenties it became part of the De Gasperis' family until 1958, the very year it cake to be American Bar Restaurant. Today the cafe shines in its Boisseirie, and in its plasters, more then 35 years old, of late renovated, the same feel you got in those years. He who doesn't know Harry's Bar Rome, has now good reason to go and see it. Legendary Harry's Bar is the unique place that evokes tbc "Dolce Vita' as if it were a clip from the film, creating a vivid flashback to the golden era of the Via Veneto, when Frank Sinatra sang at the piano and all the stars made their appearance in this bar/restaurant full of glamour and style. As in the roaring sixties, you can still sip an aperitif, enjoy the live piano bar every evening and dive into tbc magic of the Via Veneto from the exclusive and fascinating Harry's Bar. The refined cuisine recalls the freshness of Mediterranean flavours based on prime ingredients. Tradition and fantasy inspire the elegant dishes of the menu, accompanied by the most prestigious labels and a high class service.

Liked it - small but perfectly formed

Had a very good dinner here on a Sunday evening in July. We hadn't booked so we're pleased to be found a table for two outside within minutes. Bellinis were good aperitif, my wife enjoyed her pasta and my steak was excellent. Great choice of wine and we relaxed over coffees and watched the world go... read more

A run down copy ( but way more expensive) than the one in Venice. A wate of time. Mediocre food , very expensive wine.

We were hungry after a long morning of siteseeing in extreme heat and stopped for a drink and a sandwich. More reminiscent of New York City, this is a very American spot for those who prefer a dose of home to Rome's local flavors. Very expensive too!

We went there almost every night (5 nights) for drinks...really liked the grasshoppers!! We had dinner one night, good food but pretty expensive. Over $200 for two diners with a bottle of wine.

Having visited Harry's bar in Venice I expected to enjoy this one as much. But I did not. Candlelights and spectacular views are a bonus, but 45 (forty-five!) minutes waiting between starter and main course is unpardonable! There were no apologies, only incoherent explanations. And 88 Euro for Bellini, a glass of white wine, eggplants and sole fillet are too... More

We were bar hopping on the via veneto and checked out Harry's for late night drinks. I'd read the reviews online beforehand and they where mixed. Harrys was Famous for a movie over half a century ago and there was lots of movie memorabilia around. Inside is a very nice bar and dining room. We decided to sit outside since... More

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
