Description: In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every...
In order to write the story of this cafe we should get to meet every person who has gone to it, or most of them. Certainly each one of them would have a bit of story kept in the casket of their memories. Memories of unforgettable moment, but above all of a bit of history which has helped our Country to be born again. It was the Sixties and our bar proudly represented the meeting place of the " By nigth " Rome, of the " Dolce vita " (Sweet life), the place where riotous loves were born, where never revealed agreements were signed, were everything was familiar ... This was Harry's Bar. In the hearts of the ones who patronenized it, it never died, despite the hard times. Harry's Bar Rome was born in 1959, took its name only in 1962 but the cafe existed since 1918. It was the Golden Gate Confectioner's, quoted in many books. At the end of the Twenties it became part of the De Gasperis' family until 1958, the very year it cake to be American Bar Restaurant. Today the cafe shines in its Boisseirie, and in its plasters, more then 35 years old, of late renovated, the same feel you got in those years. He who doesn't know Harry's Bar Rome, has now good reason to go and see it. Legendary Harry's Bar is the unique place that evokes tbc "Dolce Vita' as if it were a clip from the film, creating a vivid flashback to the golden era of the Via Veneto, when Frank Sinatra sang at the piano and all the stars made their appearance in this bar/restaurant full of glamour and style. As in the roaring sixties, you can still sip an aperitif, enjoy the live piano bar every evening and dive into tbc magic of the Via Veneto from the exclusive and fascinating Harry's Bar. The refined cuisine recalls the freshness of Mediterranean flavours based on prime ingredients. Tradition and fantasy inspire the elegant dishes of the menu, accompanied by the most prestigious labels and a high class service.

Good food, drinks and service. However, you do pay for it.

Loved the outdoor seating and the service. Food was delicious and so was my cocktail. Not the cheapest place, but I never feel too bad if you get what you pay for.

Booked a table whilst on holiday . Been to other Harry's Bar but this one not up to scratch for me. I can only presume that we did not look/ present like some of their locals, or American clientel so we were put out in the back room near the kitchen door ! Out of sight! We were smartly dressed... A lovely place with an excellent and welcoming service. The ambience itself is worth nipping in . Yes, it is on the expensive side but this is the place one must spend some time in when in Rome. Charming.

I was walking distance from this famous bar, and Since I ve heard so much about it I arranged a visit. It was what I expected, very classic and conserving the 50s decor seen in the movie. Fortunately I wasn't hungry because food prices are high. I had a couple of drinks and the bill was what my pocket thought... More

Harry's was convenient as it was open late and across from our hotel. Only had drinks so can't comment on the food. A Peroni was 11 Euro so don't get sticker shock when you get the bill. The service was very good by Italian standards. It's a great place for people watching and the upbeat feel is more evident when... More

So what if it is a little higher priced than other areas. You get what you pay for! We had been in Rome for 2 weeks and decided to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon. The ambience and atmosphere are all it is purported to be. Even if you only want a beverage or a meal you are treated royally. People... More

We were staying around the corner from the Via Veneto for three nights and wandered out one evening to see the sights, stopped off at Harry's Bar and sat outside for Caffée Correto and Margharita plus some nibbles. Quite interesting to see the comings and goings of the smartly dressed at the restaurant, and noting how late dining is commonplace... More

Everyone talks about this place. I really don't know why The most boring, overpriced, overhyped place in Rome. It's for the over 55's. Anyway if you want a quiet evening and pay through the nose for very average food then this is your place

We had a drink here and wish that we had gone for the hamburger that was being served next to us. Great fun to watch people and have a supper. The outside area is right on the street and lovely.

While occupying a great spot on the Via Veneto, Harry's Bar was pricy and the food was average. Not bad at all, but not a great experience for the price.

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
