Intimate setting with inventive takes on traditional Italian dishes. Carbonara was the best I've ever had!! Great value for what you get.

A visit to Pipero al Rex is quite an experience. We walked over from our hotel, The St. Regis. This restaurant is located in a somewhat dreary hotel in a somewhat dreary neighborhood, but this dreary set-up only heightens the drama when you enter this restaurant. The maitre d' was very welcoming and took wonderful care of hus for the... More

I choose this restaurant because it's a Michelin star. We have not been disappointed. The meal was just excellent. I have got special diet and the chef accommodated his menu for me exceptionally and I was really please to have the opportunity to eat there and to have the tasting menu. This is now our favorite restaurant in Rome. You... More

Small place, with the best sort of formal-but-friendly service. Heavy use of traditional ingredients (veal, eggs, pasta, peas) in innovative and tasty arrangements. For example, siou vide veal with a sauce from tuna. Or a salad made only from cuttle fish and peas (and pea greens, etc). We had the fixed menu, which included 13 dishes (several varied and good... An evening here is quite an experience. Mr. Pipero, the owner, is a showman, and dinner is the performance. We rarely order a tasting menu because it usually seems like too much food, but we had it here and were very pleased with it. The creativity and presentation of the dishes made us think outside the box. With only seven... More

I have to congratulate the service in the restaurant which is extremely kind and efficient. The tasting menu, was the best we had in Rome. All the dishes were very finely made and the experience of the menu as a whole was excellent. Strongly recommend to come in and eat here

A very fairly priced Michelin restaurant (compared to Aroma, which we also visited). Taster menu was €100 and the rather generously poured wine accompaniment was only €50. We were greeted in a friendly manner by name (by the owner) and service was very helpful with a smile. Food was really excellent, not a bad course all night and everything cooked... More

Fantastic cooking by the chef. The dishes displayed great technique and finesse. We had the 7 course tasting menu (100 euros). The best dishes were the (1) cuttlefish with peas, (2) mussels and tripe - this was served with a white tomato foam that we loved, and (3) mackerel with horserashish foam, sweet onion - the onion was amazing. Classy... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
