A day trip to Rome from Sulmona in Abruzzo

Sorpasso is an eclectically styled diner-cum-higgledypiggledy back room eatery. Cool, understated, not quintessentially Italian or even Roman at first glance but with a fun vibe that makes you hope the food is just as good but really you don’t care either way. So imagine our joy in discovering... read more

Cool, understated, not quintessentially Italian or even Roman at first glance but with a fun vibe that makes you hope the food is just as good but really you don’t care either way. So imagine our joy in discovering that the co-owner is Abruzzese! A total coincidence but one which enabled... More

We called in here before going for a meal as it was just across the road from where we were staying. The vibe is very modern and a wide selection of wines, meats and cheeses available. Gets busy so if you are looking to eat I would suggest booking.

Our meal at Il Sorpasso was absolutely devine. We happened upon this place after attending epiphany mass at the Vatican and noticed the long line up of locals. There were not a lot of places open due to the holiday but we were very happy this one was. We ordered pasta and a soup and the pasta was as magical... More

One of my favorite meals in Rome due to all around awesomeness. Apparently, the menu changes on a day to day basis. The night I decided to go they told me they were mainly serving meat dishes , which turned out great for the people I was with. I don't eat meat, and was worried at first, but the waiter... More

We had lunch here after visiting the Vatican and I can not recommend it enough. The servers, food, and wine were all wonderful. We got pastas, but the stuffed sandwiches looked very good! They have an English menu, but it is a local place, so only a few servers speak English. It is very close to the Vatican and I... More

This was by far my favorite experience thus far in Rome. Located near the Vatican, I was being a typical tourist trying to find the location with only a vague idea where I was headed when I spotted lots of people outside either smoking or drinking around the outdoor tables waiting to be seated. The bartender that served us was... More

Close to the Vatican, this restaurant is really worth to be tried. We started with some italian affettati (parma ham, salami .... ) then we had a tagliata (beef slices ) accompanied with a local wine. Everything was very nice and Ifelt like being in a true italian restaurant , with a good surprise at the end as the bill... More

It has one of the best places I've ever been to. Definitely worth to go, and try something very very Italian within the city fool of fake Italian food and fool of tourist's traps. Maybe doesn't look perfect from outside, but is has "the spirit" you will be looking for in Rome. I quite sure about it.

Neighborhood Profile
Prati
Just steps away from the chaos of the center, Prati is the closest Rome gets to calm. Meticulously planned in a neat grid, quite unlike neighboring Borgo, Prati is a local favorite for its aesthetic organization and wide streets lined with a range of boutiques for every shopping fantasy. Nonnis pushing baby carriages and gossiping teens own every inch of the sidewalk, but that’s only during business hours. Once the sun sets, quirky sidestreet bars celebrate aperitivo hour, those evening cocktails that help wash away the tensions of Roman life.
