The pub takes its name from the world renowned Irish National Theatre, which was founded by William Butler Yeats and Lady Gregory.Stage props and costumes from the storerooms of the Abbey Theatre have been used in the decor, giving the pub a very special atmosphere. The six fully air conditioned rooms of the pub are spread over two floors, and a huge range of Irish whiskeys, cocktails and long drinks are on offer, as well as Irish beers on tap including, of course, the famous Guinness. The Abbey Theatre offers irish, italian and international cuisine all day everyday. We are able to show all major sports throughout the pub on 14 TV screens. ( NFL, Premiership, Serie A, Rugby World Cup...). The pub has a happy hour during the daytime, live irish music every week, and free Wi-Fi.The pub also offers private parties or weddings. Our welcoming pub, is considered one of the best in the city and it is laid out in typical Irish style with lots of little rooms linked by narrow corridors.

Great atmosphere & bartenders

The best thing about this pub was the bartenders. Thanks guys, for the special double measures ("It's not my pub!"). We lived round the corner, and you couldn't want a better local pub than this. Would've loved to have been there on karaoke night or sampled their pub grub.

Stopped for a quick drink and a cool down and ended up staying for food after seeing how popular it was with locals. The food was actually really good and cheap. The service was great and all the staff were very friendly. As a bonus, it is right across from our favourite Gelateria - Frigidarium. What more could you ask... More

This is one of the best pubs I have ever been to. My family and I were desperately searching for a place to watch the NFC championship while we were in Italy. When we couldn't get into Scholar's Lounge because it was too packed, the doormen sent us to Abbey Theatre. We were welcomed in, even with a 2 year... More

Stopped by for a few afternoon beers in the midday sun which ended up running into the afternoon! Typical overseas Irish bar. Fair price beer and a nice selection of craft ale too. All served up by the lovely Irish barmaid Tanya! Worth stopping by!

Dropped in for a pint a few times and never ate so can't comment on the food. The beer is a bit pricey, but hey! it's authentic and the stuff I was drinking was not Italian so whaaa! :-) It's the staff that make this place as do the clientele. Friendly, quick with a joke and thank goodness those light... More

We found this by chance on one of our wanders, and much to my husbands delight discovered they were showing a myriad of football games. Cracking place which looks like a proper pub ( Italians don't seem to know what an actual pub is/or should look like) spread over several small rooms. Good choice of drinks and a menu that... More

Visited The Abbey Bar a few times on our last visit, very clean, good atmosphere and good air con, a welcome relief from the sun. Bar staff very friendly. Food looked good although we didn't eat here, a little pricey at €6 a pint and €4 a soft drink but it is one of few places you get the chance... More

To go to a bar in Rome is usually an underwhelming experience. Oddly Rome, at least for me, is not a bar city, especially as you can have alcohol in any cafe. So, when I want to have a good night on the town or go to a bar I ALWAYS go to Abbey Theatre. Whether I begin at Abbey,... More

Went to watch the USA vs Cuba match in the Gold Cup at 11:00 pm and left the family at the hotel. Dave the bartender from Ireland (been in Rome 9 years) was very cool and friendly. Lots of local Romans came in as well and he knew their drinks right off the bat. Great Irish pub experience in a... More
