Interesting menu in cozy neigborhood

We ate here our first night in Rome. The menu was creative and interesting. I had wild rabbit and my girl friend had salty cod with chestnut sauce. The food was good and presented in an appealing way. Flavors where unique and service was excellent. We would definitely consider going here again.

Service was good at the start. Decor was like a hospital waiting room. Ordered our main course assuming that the meat options would come with potatoes or some sort of carbs at least.. but no.. The meatballs were literally just three small meatballs on the plate. We ordered beans as a side (from the choice of 2 sides!) which arrived... More

My wife and I turned up to this restaurant on the off chance we could get in. It had been recommended to us but various TripAdvisor reviews suggested booking was almost mandatory. We lucked out by turning up bang on opening time and getting one of the two tables which weren't reserved! The restaurant is quite small - I'd say... More

small unpretentious but excellent restaurant, good service, and within walking distance of where we were staying, seemed to be mostly Italians eating there. Great wine selection. Reasonable prices for teh quality of food and wine

A roman friend, sommelier, recommended me to this small restaurant, not far from Via Nazionale and Santa Maria Maggiore. Reservation is absolutely advisable as its a small place. The staff is very kind (young, efficient, well trained), the menue offers seasonal dishes, prepared delicately and creative. Also the presentation of the dishes is attractive. I had excellent wine by the... More

Second night in Rome. Where do we go within walking distance? Using the map app on TA we found this place and it was just 5 mins stroll from our hotel. Luckily I booked in advance and it was a good job I did. What a find this is. The food, Presentation, service and ambience was quite superb. As we... More

We walked in on a week night without a booking and a table was available. The complimentary amuse bouche was interesting, the wine list and the recommendation were both good. We had one course each and shared a dessert. Mains were the rabbit and the liver; both were served with dense reduction sauces and both were too sweet. The rabbit... More

I tried this for the first time after a year and a half in Monti. It was worth the wait! The food is seasonal, and are updates on classics. The service was just the right balance. Be advised, this is not a € 8 per plate trattoria, but a cut above. For two courses and two glasses of wine, plan... More

If you are in Monti and would like to experience a lovely Italy fine dinning restaurant, you can't be wrong here. The food is lovely in particular the secondi. The wine selection is great too. Please make your reservation as the place is pretty pack in late evening.

Unlike many restaurants in Rome, the service in l'Asino d'Oro is consistently good, starting with the free appetizer when you arrive. Dishes like the bacon with vinegar, and wild boar in chocolate sauce are worth tasting. Do beware if you are a late diner - some of the main courses are at their best if they have had sufficient time... More
