Great food and locals atmosphere!

Tucked on the back lane of via madonna dei monti, a stones throw from the tourists hotspot is Taverna Romana. Given as a recommendation from a local whos place I have rented for the week. The restaurant is small with white lining clothes, modest glasswear and cork wall tiles, a clear testament to... read more

Life changing meal is what I walked away thinking. Looking back at my meal now I feel like crying because I can't have it and am forcing myself to think about it. My wife read about Taverna Romana in a guide to Rome book so we don't get credit with "stumbling" onto it but it wasn't the easiest place to... More

Tucked away but what an amazing place. Very cosy but full of Italian atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the service was great despite being really busy.

Service was good. That's it. Very small, outdated decor. Only had 2 menus for the entire restaurant. We ordered steak and a carbonara. Carbonara looked lovely, it tasted solely of salt, pasta underdone. My partners steak was completely cover with fat and was a fight to cut it however the flavour wasn't terrible. Would not return.

Filled with repeat local clientele, including families with kids, having a wonderful time. Reasonable pricing for quality home-style cooking. Drink the house wine, possibly the least expensive carafe in Rome.

I have eaten here 6 or more times over 5 years. The food is excellent. Pasta amatricana, and the grilled lamb is my favorite. Always a nice crowd and mostly locals tells me it is authentic. The house wine is nice and this is a reasonable priced place.

We visit this restaurant today, and it was a magical visit. It is family owned and operated, so if you are expecting the "cheese cake factory" service, you better don't go. Small tables, friendly italians. Really good food. I felt like eating at home

we went on recommendation and were not disappointed. Good house wine, hearty and delicious pasta dishes and home made desserts. Would have given more but they forgot our starter, which arrived with the main course. Would go back next time I'm in Rome

The Taverna Romana is tucked away in a street just off the Via Cavour - very near the centre of Rome. We had lunch. Honest food, simply served, fairly priced. Friendly - apart from an unsmiling waitress from central Europe. Lots of Italians lunching. I'd go there again.

Came across this restaurant by mistake and what a wonderful mistake it was, hidden away on a side street this little but great restaurant lay. Everything from the service to the food and the atmosphere was really excellent.
