Surprising, cordial, delicious

My wife and (2) young adult daughters, were in Rome for the first time recently and booked our reservation at Restaurant il Golfo on New Year's Eve day. Not knowing what to expect, we arrived hoping we made a good choice. We were not let down. The array of fresh seafood courses that were part of the prefix meal were... More

We went on our first evening in Rome based on the good reviews here. After receiving a free glass of aperitif it took us a while to convince the waiter that two appetizers may be enough for two people, which I guess is when the restaurant lost interest in us. Both the raw and the cooked seafood sampler were good... More

We ate here 21/8/2014. The sea bream was delicious. Wife's pasta also. Prices for best fish were quite reasonable. We return to Rome in October and definitely plan a return to Il Golfo.

I loved the way this place was decorated...I know that sounds funny but I loved the ambience. The food was good but what I discovered is that the chefs in most Italian restaurants try to steer you in a certain direction whether you want that particular dish or not (I think they push what is the most fresh or what... Food was only OK after a long wait - 50 minutes for a meager sea bass for 25 €... Too expensive and too long a wait to be only OK. And the still water was clearly tap in a used bottle. Go elsewhere.

Very good friendly crew. They were helpful to my husband and I. Clearly we were tourists (from Canada) but they showed us "how Italians eat out." Made it very enjoyable! Very personable and the owner(?) tried to get to know us better. Excellent service and the food was excellent as well!!

We found this wonderful restaurant by searching restaurants on Trip Advisor local to our hotel and we are so pleased we came here. The decor is simple but beautiful and the owner was such a pleasure to meet. He was clearly very passionate and this showed in the menu and quality of the food. We ordered a mix of starters,... Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
