La "Hostaria", Trastevere

There are two places in Trastevere I love a bit more than others: La Botticella is one of them. Restaurant-Trattoria prepare courses from the local cuisine which are generous and they never disappoint. During busy time in Rome (almost 12 months a year), you may wait for a little longer, but this is... read more

We have visited this restaurant many times during the last few years and have enjoyed it immensely. So, it was our first stop when we returned to Trastevere in December. We were surprised and sad at how this visit disappointed us. Like other reviews have mentioned, we were squeezed in so tightly that getting up to leave the table was... More

it's not a huate cuisine experience by a far stretch. the restaurant has a nice, homely feel to it, family run and very casual. it's a bit away from the tourist bustle in Trastevere, and the setting is intimate (read: a bit crowded - we were squeezed between two couples). but the food - go for the food. this was... Visited this place twice - last year and again this year in September. It was suggested to us by locals. It's a small place in a small street in Trastevere - away from tourist tracks. The food is very delicious here. Antipasti, pastas and meats - exellent. We tried ravioli with porcini and truffles - superb! Desserts was not so... More

Despite the many good reviews here this Restaurant is not for everyone. I have rated it on the quality of our own experience. It has atmosphere and is tucked away in a charming small street, service is pleasant and attentive etc. So what is not to like? Firstly it was not a comfortable experience.. It was not full on the... My gf and I went to this place randomly, based on the good reviews here on Tripadvisor. We got there early one night at about 7.15PM and we were the only people in the place, except for the waiters and the owner. She, the owner, asked us where we're from and we found out she was Romanian just like us,... More

Poor service! They know they offer good meals in a cosy part of Trastaverre, but are arrogant and impolite. Especially when the tablea are occupied they are unfriendly to tourist that inform on availability.

Having eventually located the restaurant we were disappointed to see that there was nobody here. We walked away but 5 minutes later we returned. So glad we did. Within 5 minutes it was bursting at the seams! We had the zucchini flowers with mozzarella to start & they were excellent. This was followed by the best lasagne & ravioli imaginable.... More

During our 11 night stay in Trastevere we ate at La Botticella 3 times. The food, service and overall experience was excellent every time. I can not remember his name, but the gentleman with the thick goatee was our server twice and was just great. Julia(owner/chef/waitress) was everywhere, and besides cooking our meals she would appear out of nowhere filling... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
