Solid Roman Food Old School Style

We were referred to this restaurant by our hotel in the Termini area of Rome. You would easily pass it by from the street but upon entering you will find yourself in an old school style Italian restaurant. While the menu was available in Italian and English, it was refreshing to have a waiter who... read more

I went here on a recommendation of seeing what proper roman food was like and really enjoyed the meal. My gnocchi was light and just the right texture and veal main was well cooked and juicy. I had beer, a glass of prosecco and still only 34.50. Best meal I had and a good way to finish in Rome.

The food was under average standard, lots of boring pasta with no filling or flavor. The waiters seemed to be understaffed, stressed and rude enough to give us the bill before even being done with the dessert, which we could see was because there was a line outside. The whole time we had the feeling that they wanted us served... More

During our stays in Rome, we tend to stay in a hotel in Via Nazionale and this restaurant is very close by. It is just round the corner from the Opera House. We were introduced to it by Roman friends and during our visits, we go there regularly, at least two or three times each time. Invariably, we eat very... More

Hotel recommended this nice cosy restaurant and no question why! Food was excellent: Italian antipasto plate was great. Also brushetta was delicious as starter. As main courses cirloin Steak was very juicy! House wine tasted great and staff was very friendly! Also desserts were heavenly: house tiramisu was best ever and my strawberries tasted like summer! Worth to visit!

This charming restaurant, a few steps down from street level, is around the corner from our hotel & was recommended to us several years ago by the proprietors of the hotel. We go there to eat each time we visit Rome & are never disappointed. The service is good, prices reasonable and the food is excellent!!!

This charming restaurant has great food, great prices and great service. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and patient with our obvious lack of Italian language expertise. We felt welcome and enjoyed the ambiance as well as the food.

We were staying at the Boscolo hotel in Piazza della Repubblica and wanted a decent meal without walking to far. This trattoria is out of the way on via Napoli 4 and does not look much from outside. Downstairs we found a large room with great atmosphere and filled with locals which is a good sign. Service was swift and... More

Thanks to reviews on here my wife and I spent a couple of nights at this Restaurant. Our meals were very good value for money, especially the €6 for a litre of house wine. Would recommend if you are in the area. As it's away from the main streets you don't get hassled into going in either.

Let's start from the ''cons'': level of English just a bit over ''Itanglish'', however with the eng (and other languages) menu it's not a big deal. 1€ each for the bread, and it wouldn't be a problem if at least the bread would be good. However as Italian I know that this euro is basically the ''neverunderstoodItalian service'' so ok.... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
