Something different, worth a visit

After a glass of wine in one the street bars in front of the Colosseum, I was feeling a bit hungry so decided to explore the area behind. Most were very ordinary Pizza places, but Il Bocconcino caught my eye. The decor is different, cosy and yet clean, not fusty. However the first waiter pulled a... read more

Although very close to the Colosseum, Il Bocconcino is far from touristy. Easily the best food I've had in Rome these last few days and in a warm and homely environment. Friendly, expedient service. Will be happy to return.

We return to this trattoria 7 years after we first went there with my wife.Still delicious food, good service but the bill was 50 percent more expensive than it should be.They told me that the boss changed 5 years ago.Perhaps the new boss has bigger expenses.

Trip Advisor lead us to this gem, and I hope to do the same for others! This small neighborhood place served one of the best meals we had in Italy. We were there early, but it filled up with lots of locals later on.....always a good sign! We had a pistachio & herb encrusted Rombo (white fish) that was truly... More

We keep finding lovely, authentic trattorias and thinking 'surely we can't beat this' But then we do, our dinner here was not only a fantastic meal but an amazing experience in itself. Set far enough down a few side streets to be very fairly priced and not too busy, this rustic little trattoria was a fantastic choice. The menu was... More

This restaurant is an amazing, hidden secret - one of the best restaurants in Rome, tucked in behind the Colosseum. The food is fresh, original, authentic. Unbelievably good. All the local people who work in the area know it as one of the best in Rome.

Read the great reviews on this place and seeing as it is just around the corner gave it a go for lunch. All the positive reviews are spot on, helpful wait staff ready to explain menu and make suggestions on dishes and wine. Dessert was very good as well but by then we had eaten so much we were about... After visiting the Colosseum we flipped on the TripAdvisor app searching for a good Italian lunch. Sunday afternoon. We were guided by the map to this hidden gem and found a feast for our appetite. I had the daily special Spezzatino di manzo con patate e piselli accompanied by pomodori canditi. Luperco red is an excellent match for wine. Merlot,... More

All Italian menu eagerly explained by the attentive staff. Cheap good house wine by the carafe. Hearty Roman food in a rustic setting. Went for lunch after a morning in the colosseum and forum. Short walk back to the Metro. Go!

Monti
Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighborhood just west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season, quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its cobblestone streets. The neighborhood supports unique and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime residents as well as hipsters on the hunt. Hang out at Piazza della Madonna dei Monti anytime after lunch and you'll always find something going on.
