Worthy of its name...

Struck gold again with this wonderful gelataria on Via Aventino. The location is not ideal so is easy to miss or overlook but if you make the 3 minute walk from Circo Maximo metro station you will be rewarded! For the past several years I have been on a quest to find the best gelato in Rome (and Italy) and have probably had close to 200. A very important concept to understand in judging gelaterias is that no one makes the best of every flavor. Gracci makes an incredible pistacchio, Neve di Latte and Coroni unbelievable chocolate, etc. Claudio... More

Went here on our Vespa tour. Wild favors each one better than the other. Good choice if looking for a gelato place.

Worth the taxi ride! Chocolate with paprika and pepperoncini, cream with Cointreau and orange rind and shockingly, my favorite of the night, cream of celery. Wow!

Green tea, sesamo and other strange but good flavours! Worth a try!

One of the best places to get ice cream in Rome. The "gelateria" is a bit small and the name on the front isn't "Il Gelato Fantasia", so you might be confused. It's still relatively easy to find, since it's the only one around - just opposite to a supermarket. Absolutely recommended!

I think not. I also like the fact it's on my doorstep of course, but the gelato here really is worth writing home about, unlike that at Giolitti's near the Pantheon which is good, granted, but not gourmet. This is gourmet. Perfect consistency, astonishing flavour and not at all over-priced. GO GET IT!

We were waiting for a wonderful gelato experience and Fantasia did not dissapoint. We tasted a few of the common flavors (dark chocolate, raspberry) and some of the rare flavors (gorgonzolla). It was amazing! The only bad thing is we were not able to go back the next evening.

The biggest and most impressive range of quality gelato we've seen on our Roman travels. Delicious classic flavours, twists on well-known favourites (Brie and summer berries?!) and out-there crazy opens (tomato and basil!) - three whole counters makes for a mindboggling choice. But the staff give you time to choose, they're funny and friendly and the prices are hugely reasonable.... More

Staying in Aventine

Neighborhood Profile
Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighborhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.
