Pleasant

The service was wonderful, really attentive waiter. Inside was busy, which is a good sign, therefore we sat outside. Was a nice setting except for the buskers that stand by your table performing every so often! Nonetheless this is no fault on the restaurant itself.

Some people say they charge you for things you don't ask, and that's true, 2€ for bread service (which I enjoyed with olive oil, parmeggiano cheese, salt and a drop of vinegar) and the water (3€ for the big bottle). But that's normal, besides that, no more hidden charges in the bill. I ordered the Matriciana pasta (first one in... More

We walked in without reservations and were quickly and politely seated for dinner. It all went downhill from there. First, the positive: The waitstaff here is very friendly and the 1/2 bottle of wine we had was surprisingly good. The Parma ham served there is also pretty tasty. And now unfortunately, the negatives, which far far outweigh the positives: As... More

one of my favorite restaurants. the service is great, even fun with kids. multilanguage also, with a great assortment of typical pasta dishes. a lot of tradition. recommend trying the seasonal food, artichokes, shrimp etc. all pasta and risotto are great for first. good mozzarella quality and hand cut ham is amazing

Sometimes you miss whatever is under your nose, but we were lucky to be too tired to go into center city Rome for a meal and went next door to our hotel to the Matriciana The place is lovely with both indoor and outdoor seating, we sat inside adjacent to the veranda. It is an elegant feel with crisp white... More

In a city where it has become hard to distinguish restaurants truly serving local food from well-disguised tourist traps, Matriciana was a refreshing, wonderful surprise. In fact, we stumbled upon it while walking to a different restaurant recommended by our hotel. Needless to say, we never made it to our intended destination! Matriciana provided us with excellent food and attentive... More

I booked 'La Matriiana' for my daughters 21st birthday by email in advance of our visit to Rome. They reserved the best table in the house for us. The food was superb and the bill was very reasonable, the owner even made my daughter a cake. If we ever return to Rome I'll book a table there again. Thank for... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
