I found this place randomly, stumbling through the back streets towards the river on a hot August day of 2012. I was in Rome for a week already, yet resisted the temptation of eating gelato from all the tourist traps located on each corner. I guess deep down I just knew that the real thing was worth waiting for! The... More

I am a regular Rome visitor. My first trip was in 1985 and I never skipped Gioliti. It was basically the most heavenly ice cream experience one could imagine. Today I was with my five children (aged 5-13) and I guess it was my last visit to Gioliti... however spoiled I think my children are, they have a sense of... More

Just about our first stop in Rome when we discovered it was less than 5 min. from our hotel! I'd been there before but didn't actually know if I could find it again so was thrilled to literally see it when we walked down a small alley near our hotel. There's plenty of gelato in Italy but it's not all... More

But noisy place and as usual in Rome rude service. At the table I felt uncomfortable as the waiter kept scolding other guests who took place at a table with only a cone bought from the bar. I bought the cheapest option from the menu (a quite large cup of ice cream) 7€. Still worth it.

This is the best gelato that I have ever had. Huge selection of flavors. Be sure to ask for crème on your gelato.

This was recommended my a travel guide book icon (to remain nameless) and a hotelier. It was good, but is definitely for tourist. I was told by another consumer they make it with milk, which is not he norm. I have had gelato in Rome a couple of times before and this seemed to melt very easily. Now I can... More

Rome is packed with ice cream places, some average, some terrible, but if you want to take the guess-work out of the experience - just go to Giolitti. Easy to find, amazing taste and good value. Just remember (like everywhere in Rome) you pay first and then queue with your receipt. Don't expect service with a smile but they are... More

So many guidebooks tout the excellence of the ice cream at Giolitti that we thought we should give it a try. The crowd spilling outside the door should have been a giveaway of what lay ahead. First we waited patiently and then began pushing to keep our place in line in order to pay at the cashier and get a... More

As every place made for tourists, Giolitti is offering a specific quality of gelato. Enough to make the fuzz, but not the best. Frankly, I didn't see the reason of waiting in line just to get a good gelato (that you can find everywhere in rome).

Absolutely fabulous gelato, well worth the line and scrum to get served inside! And yes, the line stretched down the street... but moved quickly. You pay as you enter, and get a receipt which you MUST KEEP to give to the clerk at the counter with your order. Up to the pay point the line is very organized. After that... More
