I gave it a 3, but feel it's a 1.

This is my first online review of anything. Online complaints are annoying, self indulgent and unhelpful most of the time. That said- This place is not terrible if you go in expecting average, lackluster, overpriced tourist food. It's not that the ingredients are not fresh, the preparation is... read more

We spent four nights in Rome and were fortunate to find this restaurant on the first. Although highly recommended the other two restaurants we went to were not nearly as good in terms of food or service. So we went back to Osteria La Gensola for our last night in Rome and we were not disappointed. Federica selected the most... More

I have eaten here twice on two separate visits to Rome. The menu has a good balance between Sicilian and Roman dishes. The waitstaff is knowledgable and attentive; they do an excellent job of helping plan the meal. The pace of the meal is relaxed, never rushed. I will return. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best restaurant in Roma, especially for fish! Try all the antipasti. Good selection of wines. Nice atmosphere. Very beautiful location.

We went there following the recommendations of our hotel cosigner (bingo for all his recommendations!). we enjoy very much the food. This is a place you should select seafood!- this is their specialty! . We also recommend the desert we - Sicilian casata (a typical cheese cake with marzipan glazing. It was excellent. The place was packed with locals. i... More

I visited this restaurant last week, and I have to say, that so far and after numerous visits to Rome this has been my biggest disappointment. This was supposed to be a restaurant specialized in fish, but no one of the dishes was prepared with fresh fish. The food was insipid, and sometimes so oily that was almost impossible to perceive... We went to Gensola with a small group so I tasted a lot of different dishes. I found some of the dishes really good, and some just OK.

This was our second visit here in two years and it didn't disappoint. We did start with the hand carved ham but then moved on to the seafood which is what they do so wonderfully. I had the spaghetti with sea urchin roe and the monkfish cheeks as my second course. My wife had the pasta with monkfish ragu and... More

Enjoyed my meal immensely - the white truffle pasta makes me drool just thinking of it now. And the fritto misto was awesome as an app. The place just had a staff a bit unfriendly and push us next to people even though no one was in the restaurant at the moment. That said the food out ways that by... More

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
