I wrote a review for La Gensola after visiting two summers ago. This year we were back in Rome with friends and had booked a meal here for our second night, having told them how great it was the first time round. It didn't disappoint. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We had scallops with squid ink, razor clams with... More

After loosing yourself in the Trastevere area a little away from the large crowd you'll find two large windows decorated with plants and flower. Around the corner an unassuming door opens on two small rooms decorated in a warm rustic tone. The very expansive menu covers all the main roman fares with an accent of fish. FRESH fish. Choose anything... More

Osteria La Gensola is situated in a quiet little street in Trastevere but is not the usual tourist trap that you might expect. It's more expensive than the other local restaurants but is worth the extra euros. We lived in the "quiet little street" for several months and visited several times. We always took guests there for a special treat.... More

We went to this cozy trattoria on a rainy night. Great ambiance, friendly staff. Definitely make a reservation. We shared the cecci fritters (different and great!). I ordered the baked baccala and my mom had the swordfish. Both were excellent. For dessert, a divine chocolate cake. Good house wine, too! A little expensive, but a great place to splurge for... My husband and I visited La Gensola for lunch prior to our afternoon tour of The Vatican. Conveniently located in Trastevere where we were renting an apartment. I had read very good reviews both on TripAdvisor and Yelp so added this to our list of restaurants to try. Yes, it is pricey but the quality of the food the presentation... More

It´s true, the owner/manager is charming - that´s his job. The location is in a lovely Piazza La Gensola in Trastevere. The service is good, the food is good, the wine is overpriced. The decor is a little overbearing. I wouldn´t choose to go back.

I had a small dinner with friends and we had oysters to start and a spagetti.dish as main course. Spagetthi was perfect and the wine list was impressive. Book in advance, is was completely packed before 9.30. La Gensola is good value for money and it's located in a very nice part of Rome, the old Trastevere.

This place in Trastevere is obviously charging tourist prices for mediocre Italian food. The pasta was not cooked (and we like it al dente!), and the rest of the meal was not any better. Why pay 3Euros when we asked for tap water? A green salad at 5 Euros and asparagus at 8 Euros is unacceptable when compared to the... More

We booked in this restaurant because it was recommended by a friend and we were very disapointed. The food was terrible... We were 6 people and we all ordered a starter and a main dish. For the starters, 2 people had the boiled octopus. The octopus was too cooked and had no dressing. Only one or 2 drops of olive... More

Located in the Trastevere Area of Rome, this is a nice little gem of a restaurant, if you ask me. Nicely decorated, good service, impressive wine list and they have an extensive fish selection, which my wife was quite keen on tying, since naturally being in Rome we found ourselves eating a lot of pizza and pasta, most days. We'd... More
