Also a mixed review

Great atmosphere and decor, excellent wine and sides but the best thing on the mixed grill was the sausage and I have a sneaking suspicion that I paid €17.50 for lamb chops sold to me as deer chops. They were very fatty and tasted just like lamb... but maybe that's what deer chops are like? Quite... read more

Had 2 very bad starters, followed by average main course, followed by excessive bill and a 8 Euro cover charge for a few slices of bread that we didn't ask for (for 8 Euro you can get a whole pasta course). We asked for a bottle of still water - we get tap water that he charges us 3 Euro... More

Wanting to enjoy a nice dinner in Trastevere, we landed at Il Ciak and were so glad we did. The owner/waitstaff were charming; the food (we had the ossobuco and chicken) were delicious, and the ambience wad perfect--warm, welcoming and fun! I would definitely go back and will recommend to any friend heading to Rome.

Dined at this delightful restaurant on our trip to Rome last month, on the advice of our Italian friend. Unlike many of the tourist traps this was a real taste of Italy, with exquisite food, atmosphere and service. Sat at a lovely little romantic table by the window and had excellent service from our waiter who was just fab! We... More

Our server, the sassy hostess and proprietor, was wonderful. I highly recommend the meat ravioli. The whole family loves it, even our pickiest eater. I dream about this dish all year until I can return.

I dined there with a group of students when visiting in Rome. The food was good, the wine was good, the service was good.

A lovely warm and hospitable restaurant in Trastevere. We both enjoyed the veal and the pasta. A lovely bottle of wine and some great coffee. A great find for our first dinner in Rome.

We were in Rome to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and our hotel was just across the river in Via Giuglia. We like Trastavere, particularly the square where Santa Maria church is, and on the way we spotted Il Ciak. It just seemed so welcoming that we couldn't resist going in. Faced with a chill cabinet of fresh meat behind... More

This is as Italian as it goes! The restaurant is noisy and crowded but that is just how I like it! We just had an amazing time visiting the Ciak. The waitress was tremendous and she made us laugh while serving all the guests. The food is very Tuscan and served as big portions. Absolutely nothing to complain about! I... More

Lovely host who looked after us, very friendly (but not overly so). Two of us shared the steak for two dish and it was exceptional, another in our party had a basic steak, which wasn't as good. We had lovely starters to share, wine of course and atmosphere was great - mainly Italians, which we liked. An all round good... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
