Nice little restaurant in Trastevere

A lovely warm and hospitable restaurant in Trastevere. We both enjoyed the veal and the pasta. A lovely bottle of wine and some great coffee. A great find for our first dinner in Rome.

We were in Rome to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and our hotel was just across the river in Via Giuglia. We like Trastavere, particularly the square where Santa Maria church is, and on the way we spotted Il Ciak. It just seemed so welcoming that we couldn't resist going in. Faced with a chill cabinet of fresh meat behind... More

This is as Italian as it goes! The restaurant is noisy and crowded but that is just how I like it! We just had an amazing time visiting the Ciak. The waitress was tremendous and she made us laugh while serving all the guests. The food is very Tuscan and served as big portions. Absolutely nothing to complain about! I... More

Lovely host who looked after us, very friendly (but not overly so). Two of us shared the steak for two dish and it was exceptional, another in our party had a basic steak, which wasn't as good. We had lovely starters to share, wine of course and atmosphere was great - mainly Italians, which we liked. An all round good... More

The staff was very friendly and polite unlike most Roman tourist places... The food was great, try spaghetti carbonara and their steaks off course! My beef steak was perfectly grilled and good portion. Red wine was average nothing special. You should visit this tavern if you need a break from the regular pizza and touristy restaurants, totally worth it and... More

This is one of the best places for steak I've been too. Steak was cooked how we liked it, it didn't cost a fortune and it tasted amazing!

Dined here early January 2015. The atmosphere was buzzing and the restaurant was really busy. The staff were extremely friendly. Unfortunately that is where the good experience ended for us. The waiter suggested a number of different dishes, some of which we chose, and others we selected ourselves. The wine was delivered to the table well into the first course,... More

This little restaurant in Trastevere is to die for. It was so good, we ate there 3 nights in a row. Of course, we had different dishes each time, but the Pappardelle with Cinghale was ordered each night as a Primi Plat because it was sooo good!!. I ordered the 2 different Mixed Grill dishes for the first 2 dinners,... More

When in Rome for the holidays, we stumbled into Il Ciak on a rainy night, and fell in love! The meat is fresh, grilled on an open wood fire, and served "naked" with olive oil, salt and pepper. It was the best game meat I've had - including any place in the US. I had wild boar, quail, chicken, and... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
