This place is absolutely great - the menu consists of simple fare - focaccia, bruschetta, insalata and soups, but they are all made using the freshest local ingredients and taste amazing. Portions are generous. We tried everything except the insalata and it was all mouth wateringly good. We also tried several of the red wines on offer, which were also... More

In our two days in Matera we visited Panecotto twice and it was great both times. The building has high ceilings and is an upmarket deli/wine bar style. Food is as mixture of cheese/meat boards with traditional soups and other small meals. The first night we nipped in for a glass of wine and upon their recommendation had a lovely... More

Loved the wine list here! Prices were very good with some really good local wines. The food was more than adequate - good size helpings. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.

This was a cute little restaurant. I had a ham sandwich that was amazing. I'm still craving it. They have pasta, cookies and sauce prepackaged to take home. I wish I would have grabbed some cookies when we left, because they looked so yummy. The waiter was extremely nice & actually gave us directions to the nearest gelato place. I... More

This restaurant was recommended by the manager of our hotel. It's in the Sassi Caveoso area of Matera and is in one of the caves, so it's cool in both senses of the word. It is beautifully kept and decorated with nice, modern furniture. It was such a pleasure to sit inside and eat a delicious, light antipasti type lunch... More

This was one of my favourite meals of my whole trip to Italy. We fancied a light lunch and had spotted this place the day before. It's smart, well-located in the heart of the sassi and clearly targeted at those looking for a lighter, and perhaps healthier, lunch option instead of pizza or pasta. I ordered bruschetta with a side... More

Many times after eating a substantial lunch while traveling you only want something light for dinner. Panecotto is just that spot. We had the zuppa fagioli e salsiccia and some wonderful bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and crusty bread. Both dishes were liberally splashed with very good olive oil. There are at least 6 wines by the glass to go with... More

Panecotto is the perfect place for a light meal, there is a good variety of offerings, however, do not go if you are looking for Pasta and heavy meat dishes (though there are quite a bit of sliced meat options). The offerings include many different types of antipasto as well as interesting soup and salad options, as well as dessert.... More

The setting is gorgeous - in a cave, but with modern fixtures. Try their selection of soups. I had the bean soup and it was fantastic - and a big portion too. Bruschetta is divine and fresh. They serve Matera bread which is the best in the region. Excellent selection of wines. You can also buy their soups, pastas, olive... More
