Panecotto is located in the very heart of Matera's Sassi, few steps away from one of its spectacular terraces on its canyon (so called the Gravina). Fashioned designed, its interiors put in value the ancestral quality of the place, an cavern with impressive domes, also thanks to a minimalist intervention with modern and tech interventions. Food is all local, traditional... More

Panecotto is a great little spot on the edge of the Sassi of Matera. It is perfect for a light and fresh lunch. We tried a selection of cheese and meats from the area and everything was so flavorful and locally made. The focaccia and the fried peppers are especially good! Make sure you have a bottle of wine while... More

We first tried panecotto three years ago. It served then (as now) decent simple fare. A little disconcerting that they simply reheat what they have stocked in jars in the shop, but if you consider it to be just a snack bar, that's perhaps ok. (Albeit, one of the joys of eating out in Italy is that more often than... More

Best place to stop in for a simple, but great lunch to experience the local culinary specialties. After eating their bread, you will not be able to find anything that good.

Stopped here for lunch in the middle of our day in Matera. I was a little skeptical at first because it looked like a bit of a chain, and we tend to stay away from that type of restaurant. However, everything we tasted was fresh and delicious and one of my favorite meals from my trip. We had a small... More

This place is absolutely great - the menu consists of simple fare - focaccia, bruschetta, insalata and soups, but they are all made using the freshest local ingredients and taste amazing. Portions are generous. We tried everything except the insalata and it was all mouth wateringly good. We also tried several of the red wines on offer, which were also... More

In our two days in Matera we visited Panecotto twice and it was great both times. The building has high ceilings and is an upmarket deli/wine bar style. Food is as mixture of cheese/meat boards with traditional soups and other small meals. The first night we nipped in for a glass of wine and upon their recommendation had a lovely... More

Loved the wine list here! Prices were very good with some really good local wines. The food was more than adequate - good size helpings. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.

This was a cute little restaurant. I had a ham sandwich that was amazing. I'm still craving it. They have pasta, cookies and sauce prepackaged to take home. I wish I would have grabbed some cookies when we left, because they looked so yummy. The waiter was extremely nice & actually gave us directions to the nearest gelato place. I... More
