Wonderful dinner in Matera. Baccus is an original. Chef comes to talk to you at table to help select what is fresh for the day. Service lovely and being able to watch the chef cook is very entertaining. They don't open until 8pm but well worth the wait. They do make their desserts in house too. So save room. Antipasta... We stayed in Matera for two nights and ate here both nights which says a lot ! The food is excellent. The mixed antipasti, you are advised to share between two as it consists of three types of cheeses with jams, two types of ham and salami and a selection of grilled vegetables and some chopped courgettes in dressing. We... More

We took a taxi here and back to avoid tramping up and down the steps of the Sasso on a slightly rainy evening. The lady in attendance at lunchtime (when we made the reservation) arranged the two-way taxi trip for us, and when we finished dinner the chef called the taxi without our asking. This was exceptional courtesy. The dining... More

Great venue, good staff the usual superb food, another place recommended by the hotel staff and rightly so too.

We ate here after reading good reviews. It was a disaster. The staff did not care. The food was bland. I had the traditional local dish of orechiette with turnip tops. It was like eating water. I had the same dish in another restaurant a few days later and it was delicious. My husband had lasagne and it was obviously... More

One thing stands out in my mind as a summary of the experience. As part of the antipasti di casa, there was a dish of warm, medium sized tomatoes. Maybe San Marzano, with the top cut off. Baked perhaps. Breadcrumbs and olio and some unimaginably delicious combination of herbs and cheeses and breadcrumbs. The effect made the mind and mouth... More

this is a cheap but excellent local restaurant serving good honest and tasty food for an amazing price. The wine is also exceptional for the money, we had the Moscato and enjoyed every drop. It was very quiet when we were eating with only two other tables occupied, so the atmosphere was a little subdued but dont let this put... More

This really was one of the most enjoyable (i.e. delicious), varied, visually attractive, meals we have had in our many years of world travel! And the setting was splendid, unpretentious and friendly, in one of the old winding streets of the Sassi, in Matera (designated European Cultural Capital 2019).

Had a meal in this restaurant and the waiter was helpful in explaining the dishes to us. Tasty food at reasonable prices with a pleasant atmosphere.

If you are looking for good food in Matera then you should stop and eat here! Carlo and his wife are the best you can find in Matera. Courtesy, food and wine! Definitely must stop and eat at least once for lunch or dinner.
