The antipasto was just too much!

We had a lovely meal here, our first night in Italy. The antipasto was too much but we enjoyed every bit. The homemade pasta was also outstanding. Service excellent. Highly recommended.

Recommended to us by the great guys at our hotel, this restaurant had the best 'tasting menu' of our entire holiday (and we tried a fair few). Lots of small yet delicious plates of local specialities that just kept on coming until we were so full, we couldn't even eat dessert. Mind you, the desserts looked great, so we went... More

Closed Monday. Good reputation, but that does depend on what you order. Good but relatively expensive wines. Good service.

This is a very good place to eat. The antipasti was particularly good, the lasagne and the roast lamb. The hot chocolate soufflé was delicious. Wine inexpensive and good. The chef is a personality in himself and the staff friendly and efficient

This seemed a good restaurant: nice room, friendly service, good menu. I was half-way through my fish, when a couple were seated next to me with two large dogs. Call me culturally inflexible, but I don't eat with dogs. I think it is dirty. So I left. Hungry.

This is another very good restaurant in Matera where you are spoilt for choice for places to eat. A simple clean room. It is again all about the food.In this restaurant. The food does the talking. You can see chef cooking your food through a large glass screen. Service is good along with the staff. The portions are large so... More

Charming courtyard, warm evening and friendly staff make this a good choice. The food was traditional trattoria fare, competently cooked but unremarkable. Antipasti varied and delicious. Lamp chops attractively presented but rather gristly. Our bill was €54 for tw for two courses and wine which we thought very fair value

Wonderful dinner in Matera. Baccus is an original. Chef comes to talk to you at table to help select what is fresh for the day. Service lovely and being able to watch the chef cook is very entertaining. They don't open until 8pm but well worth the wait. They do make their desserts in house too. So save room. Antipasta... We stayed in Matera for two nights and ate here both nights which says a lot ! The food is excellent. The mixed antipasti, you are advised to share between two as it consists of three types of cheeses with jams, two types of ham and salami and a selection of grilled vegetables and some chopped courgettes in dressing. We... More

We took a taxi here and back to avoid tramping up and down the steps of the Sasso on a slightly rainy evening. The lady in attendance at lunchtime (when we made the reservation) arranged the two-way taxi trip for us, and when we finished dinner the chef called the taxi without our asking. This was exceptional courtesy. The dining... More
