In Sassi Barisano, steps if you stay in the sassi

I was there with a group of friends, some only had pizza but we tasted quite a few things. Great location if you are in the sassi, or walk down from Matera's main piazza. It's located on the lowest, road level. You can count on a good meal. Chatty in season.

We came here as a party of 10 with our tour group. Some had very good meals, my husband's lamb was good . I had one of the worst pizzas I have ever been served with. It was a calzone. The filling was lovely, but the dough was burned on the outside and completely raw in the middle. Someone else's... More

Interesting restaurant hollowed out of the rock so it has a nice ambience. We tried the pizzas and were underwhelmed, quite OK but nothing to get excited about.

The appetizer platter was huge and fantastic. Pastas also delicious. Nice service, good value. Wine was a little pricey but worth it for the atmosphere and options.

The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside and we largely chose it just out of convenience because it was near our hotel. The inside is in fact really pretty though and it's a shame this isn't more obvious from the street. We were allowed to take our dog in with us. This is very surprising for me coming... More

I ate here with another 15 people...me and my father were the only Italians. Nothing to said about the food, great pizza etc. If there is something that makes a good place a great place is the staff and the service. My uncle in law wanted to pay for everybody so he stood up and asked the waiter to give... More

Serendipity found us here as the restaurant close by we had been directed to by our hotel was closed. We were looking for a simple "pizza with a glass of wine" evening. A good crowd is generally a fair indicator of a good eating spot and after checking the menu we decided to give Oi Mari a try. Clientele was... More

Well over 30 choices of delicious pizzas. Friendly staff, tasty and fresh ingredients. When we went it was a busy restaurant with outside and inside seating, and service was very good.

We spent 2 days in Matera and wanted to go out for dinner. As we walked past Oi Mari we thought it looked really inviting. Once inside we were even more stunned by the beautiful Sassi interior. The waitress was very friendly. By boyfriend is an Italian vegetarian and loved the smoked mozzarella and his main course pizza. I'm a... More

This was recommended to us as a pizza restaurant, but we had had our fill of pizzas, so tried the bruschette for starter, and the tagliata for mains. Both were delicious - up there with the best we have ever had during our many trips to Italy. Service was friendly and efficient, and the wine recommendation was a winner too.... More
